MotorOil for 2002 TL
Hello,
We just purchased our 2002 TL and wish to give it an oil change. The manual says to use 5W-20 and NOT 5W-30. I called the service depatment and the brilliant service advisor said "there ain't no such thang as 5-20". I know that is BS because Ford has been using it for a few years now. I don't want these monkeys "maintianing" our new car. The only 5W20 I can find is Motorcraft 5W20 Synthetic blend on the shelf. It has an API rating of SL. I suppose that is better than the SJ rating of Mobil 1 that I am used to. I know that Amzoil makes a synthetic 5W20, but I do not buy into the multi level market thing and $7.00 a quart is obscene. And no I am not going to go 25000 miles between changes and void my warranty.
I guess what I am asking is what do you use? BTW the manual says to only use "Honda" brand motor oil. the local Acura dealer also says that "Honda don't make that neither." If they are to recommend such things for the car, it should be on the market, or else our dealer is an idiot (I think that is estabilished).
Thank you in advance,
Zeke

Ummmm, that service manager is an ignorant fool. Honda does make 5w-20, just use a search engine and type in "Honda oil" or something and see for your self. They even make 0W-20 for the Insight!
On the other hand, Penzoil, Texaco Havoline, Amsoil and Redline all make 5W-20 now, maybe more brands exist that I don't know about. As time goes by, there will be more brands to come out with 5W-20.
