Question A Motorized noise from under the hood.

I have a brande new TLs 03, 1000 miles on it.
I have noticed a motorized noise from the front of the car when I first put it into Drive. The noise is there twice but only momentarily, maybe a second each time. It happens as soon as I start to pull out of the driveway and then another momentary noise when I have gone about 20 feet. It sounds like a electric pump motor adjusting or something.
The noise never happens again while the car is on. I have stopped with the engine running , put it into Park, then put it into Drive and advanced slowly, to simulate the first occurence but no noise.

If I stop the car , turn the ignition off and do it all over again I hear the noise.

Anybody have a similar thing. Should I be concerned and take it back to the dealer.

Thx

no worries... that's a normal noise. It is the ABS self-test. Happens at around 3-5mph and again at 15mph.

So your car is fine... just enjoy it!!

oh and welcome aboard

Yeah, welcome! We've all heard that noise when we first bought our car and said, "What the hell was that?"

Enjoy your new ride!

To be more specific, the first "buzz" you hear is the ABS self-test, as juniorbean correctly stated. It usually happens as soon as the car rolls forward a short distance when first started (less than 5 mph). The second "buzz" is the VSA self-test. Since the VSA system uses ABS to do most of its work, you hear the ABS getting tested again. And because VSA does its work at speed, this test doesn't occur until the car is around 15 mph or so. You don't always hear/feel the second one because of road/engine/radio noise but it's there.

pianoman41 is right.

On my other cars, however, I can hear them testing the ABS after I shut the car off, too. This only happens when there's snow or rain on the ground and the ABS has been working constantly. After you shut off the car, it does a system check to make sure it's in proper working order, then does it again next time you start up the car. But I haven't seen this happen on my TL-S.

You all may be correct i'm not sure, however i believe the noise he is hearing is our passenger side mirror which tilts down in reverse so that you can see the curb better when you are in driving in reverse and then tilts back up when you put the car back into drive.

4 years old but our cars are still around

Infact the sound appears in my car when the car is started for the first 10-15 seconds. There are two buzzes at idle. If you are referring to a sound that appears at 15mph, then i dont think this is it.
