Motor Mounts
I just took my car to the dealership because it has been shifting hard. They insist the tranny is fine but say my motor mounts are shot, They want 560 for them. 2 Questions, How hard it it do replace them yourself, and what are the possible reprocussions of putting it off until later this year?

If you put it off for the rest of the year then you will mess up the ones that are good.
The ones that are busted put strain on the good mounts and will make it break easier. To replace them yourself you have to jack up the engine, but the rear mount is very hard to get to and will get you pissed off.

To really save money stay away from the dealerships when you can. I'd like to give them the middle finger on almost all their price and labor charges except when it comes to major parts or repairs.
If you are confident and have good DIY skills just buy the mounts that you need all at one time. Then if you have a local car shop near your house pick a day when you're ready to work on it and have the shop loosen the top bolts/nuts on top of each mount and tighten it back finger tight. Drive back home uninstall and install the mounts one at a time.
Once they've all been replaced, perform the procedures to neutralize the mounts and then finally tighten them all to specified torques.
You will need:
two floor jacks
two jack stands
a block of wood or two to distribute the weight of the engine on the jack
2 6-10 inch 3/8 extensions
a strong 3/8 ratchet
17mm deep socket
14mm socket (possibly 14mm wrench too)
a blanket to lie on when doing the rear mount
and lastly lots of patience (especially the rear mount.)
one reminder, dont forget to remove your battery and the battery tray when doing this or your transmission housing will bend the tray when you're lifting the engine up. Good luck if you decide on doing this yourself.

560 sounds like the front and right side mounts- is that what they told you?
The front is no big deal and the side is just cramped until you remove about 3 layers of skin
You can do it yourself- but do it!!!- there are 5 mounts total- the front 1 cost 120 for the part!
and it seems we have an expensive vacuum powered rear mount- have to get the specific from dnd who had the mystery engine miss- that was the problem!

Yeah they told me the front and left ones are bad, they dont seem too hard to get to. The front mount doesnt seem to be leaking anything. How do they tell if its no good?

the "neutralizing procedure" is really nothing special. It's just a way to get your engine properly settled in one all your mounts are in place.
Whenever you replace more than one mount, you tighten the nuts/bolts to finger tight only. Then remove the jacks and jackstands from the car and allow the engine to put its full weight on all the mounts. Then get inside your car, turn it on, hold the brakes and put it into D rev it a lil to make the engine rock forward a bit and repeat this for Reverse. Turn off the car and then go back and tighten the bolts on the mounts to the correct torques. Voila! that's it!

www.sonsacura.com was previously Baranco Acura of Atlanta, GA. Everybody on honda-tech.com uses them. They have excellent customer service. I have spent over $5000+ over the years with no mistakes to date.

you might want to try innovative mounts they are made from poly but its up to you. They might be a little more harder. but i believe they do fit but not sure. they are made for the AV6 accord V6 which is basically the same. I would call innovative and ask them if it would fit. they only come with the front and rear mounts though not the side. They are like $300ish or so. i forgot they are up on the website. just another option to try.
