Motor mount important?

I just got my new rotors and pads installed, I didn't talk to the mechanic when I picked it up, just the cashier, but when I looked at the sheet they filled out for my car it says "front right motor mount needs attn". I haven't had a problems with the car vibrating when idle, or noticed anything else wrong, so is this a problem I should fix sometime soon, or can I wait until I go to the dealer again?

I'de get it looked at real soon. The work order doesn't say what's wrong with the mount or how bad just that it needs attn. Maybe you can call the shop and talk to the mechanic that worked on your car or whomever wrote that on your order to ask them what's wrong.

From what I understand these are not your average motor-mounts. They're an "active" mount, whatever that means. But I think they have some mechanical parts that rely on engine vacuum or some thing like that. I'd have to get out my Helm's manual to look when I get home.

Here's the parts location...

Sorry, these pics really suck rocks. The server won't allow me enough memory to put up anything with finer detail.

You have 5 motor mounts on your car. My front one was broken when I got in the accident, and I was talking to the guy at Acura about it, and he said that I could drive for months without replacing it, because I have 4 other mounts. Eventually it would have to be replaced, but its nothing serious.

Yeah, get it checked. The same one on my 99 went at 50k because of hard driving off the line. My whole motor would jerk and make a thump when going from d to r and vice versa.

To check motor mount, put car in Drive, step on brakes (car should not move) and raise RPMs to 2-2.5K. Have someone watch your engine, it will move a little, but not a lot, and there is should not be any bangs. Then do the same putting car in Reverse. If engine doesn't jerk too much, you are OK for a while.

I've been having rough idling problems since day 1 with my car. Acura replaced the spark plugs under warranty, and that seemed to cure the problem temporarily, but recently I noticed the pulsations when idling are back. I figure now that the motor mounts have to be replaced. What do you guys think? I thought the car may havre needed an engine flush, but I only haved 17000 km on it (11k miles) so that can't be it.

any ideas what else to look for when it comes to rough idling?

I have a similar problem. I have a 2002 TL-S with about 44,000 miles. I got in a accident like in July, a lot of damage was done to front right side, mainly front right axel, and other similar components. Left side was not involved in accident. Anyways, they fixed the car and had no problems except hearing a noise from front left area while driving. I can describe the sound as sticking a paper in a fan and hearing that noise. Its not that loud, but with window down you can hear it.

Up until about a month ago I noticed while accelerating between 30-50mph car wobbles, like you can feel it. When let off fas, it does not wobble, or pull in any direction. Tires have been balanced. So took it back to body shop, and they said left front side is wobbling a little, they tested it by lifting the left side up and applying brake and gas and watching left side wobble. During this, that fan sound is very noticeable. Right side which was involved in accident did not wobble much or sound much.

I had another shop change my left axel, and the problem is still occuring but not as severe as before. Now they said it could be motor mounts, which could be possible because the object I hit damaged front left side. Dont know what to do...any ideas?

I'm having the exact same problem. Was in accident (front right corner gone). PA state police ran a stop sign and hit me. my car wobbles between 40-50 mph when accelerating.
i got wheels balanced and got an alignment, along with camber kits (front and rear) since I have prokit drop. Got tires balanced/rotated. nothing worked. Now I find out that 3 of my stock rims are bent. So I bought some new rims. I'm waiting on them... will take 45 days to ship from japan. In the meantime, my 02 TLS is sitting in the driveway...I hope this fixes the wobbling. Please let me know if you find a solution to the wobbling problem. I really want to know as well.
Thanks.

Front right meaning driverside, or passenger side?

If it doesn't bother you too much now, the passengerside mount can be replaced when you do the T-belt service. They have to take the engine apart from the mount in order to remove belt, and put the new one on anyways. It shouldn't cost you much then. The rear engine mount is usually the hardest to get to on a transversed layout.

Most OEM engine mounts are made out of rubber, unless it's a strut type (Toyota uses them often in the front or side) to help isolate engine vibrations from the chassis and reduce the amount of torque (movement) the engine generates when revving up. Rubber naturally hardens over time, and starts cracking; Thus requiring replacement of a new unit. The mount shouldn't break on you the next day, but change it if the cracking is more severe - vibrations pronouced and excessive movement is evident.
