Most disappointing thing about the TL

TLS-man, I know I am within a few degrees, I like to be as accurate as possible like the time is it 8:02 am or 8:03 am Who's right?? For now I am not adjusting my temp.

It all depends...
QUOTE from 2001TL4KCdude:

I'm afraid I can't tell you the absolute temp or time. Generally, I get my time from the National Bureau of Standards on the 'net, and because of line delays I may be several seconds off--that is close enough for me, although there are some who want it to the millisecond. That isn't a bad thing, but it is not necessary for me. Neither is the absolute temp: if I see it reads about 35 degrees, I know there may be some ice and adjust my driving accordingly. As far as the accuracy of temperature goes, I would find a local weather facility (such as one at an airport within 5-20 miles of you) and I would see how it compares to my readout--if it is within a couple of degrees, go with the one you feel is right. It's all about being prepared for freezing conditions and if you keep a window several degrees above the freezing mark, you will be ok.

What bugs me...
shifting with SS, I wish the gear indicator was brighter (or didn't dim as much) with the lights on - escpecially during the day. Then having to glance at the tach because the engine's so quite and you don't get a real feel for where you are with the gears without some sort of visual confirmation.
Also, the TLS seems like 2 very different cars in and out of SS... but that can be good.

I dont mind the Bose System
For me its:
Rattles
Climate Control in the Winter
Crappy stock tires
Tires too narrow
Weak brakes
Not enough head room
No trip computer
The fact that if i leave the climate control on auto but direct air to floor and middle that the fan goes full blast when you turn on the car when its 30 degrees outside. Unlike full auto where the climate control waits for the car to warm up before turning the fan on.
Other then that its a great car and a good value for the money. The Acura dealer that i purchased my car from provides me with great service too.

I hate the fact that I spent $30k on a car that sounds like a 1986 Ford Bronco with all of the squeaks. I hate even more the fact that the car knows this and stops making all sounds when I bring it to the shop!!!
Oh yeah, the breaks suck too (had the rotors cut, and then replaced in only 20k miles)
-At least it's not a Nissan (you know, the guys that steal OUR lights)-

bumpers...
so many plastic harware on the bumpers....i can see gaps developing under the HID lights and grill in general....
wish they would secure it with real harware.
anyone else noticing that their bumper is beginning to sag?

I don't like this car is the rims and the tires is too suck for us. the bose system is a joke. I can't even upgrade it if i want too. I wish acura would upgrade the HID to a 6 diskes cd changer like the 02 have. The most disturb me is the squeak. I brought to the dealer like 7 times, and they still can't fix. Also I love to have a memory seat on my 2000 car. All that is done, i like this car because there are alot of mods for me to put on. Other luxury car have less mods and too expensive to play with it.

This is a venting forum . I must be one of few who are so happy with their TL.
No squeaks anywhere thanks to Jens at Park Avenue Acura.
Everything it should have had, I added so maybe you should all do the same unless this will not be your car for long.
The TL-S added a lot of the things the TL was lacking and it also redesigned many if not all the shortcomings of the 99-01 TL.
For what I paid I feel like I really got a great value and there are so many parts and projects out there that I never get bored. Does anyone else feel this way?

I hate the fact that it rattles alot, the brakes & headroom suck!!!! It seems like alot of people experience the rattling problem, is it safe to say that thats natural for TL's?? (or should I worry?)

Maybe ill get lucky and someone will steal it.

My complaints were:
Squeaks and rattles in a 30K car drove me nuts!
Overdrive in 3rd, 4th.
No fogs.
Automatic transmission and inability to control SS out of 1st.
POS tires.
Despite those complaints, I challenge you to find a more value packed car at the 30K price point. I was really happy with mine, but I got a deal I couldn't resist on my dream car.

the squeaks and rattles can be annoying, but positive aspects like the sweet VTEC engine and just the design of the car grossly outweigh the negative ones. I cannot stress the design of the car enough, every time I look at my car I think "DAMN, that car is HOT!" Oh, but the one thing I can't stand is the fake wood trim, I mean come on, do they think we're that dumb?

Well, lets see. My 99 lets me control 1st, so thats not a prob. I have a different problem free tranny compared to the 2000 and up guys, and i am rattle free after getting my sunroof fixed. I have no complaints. Wait the only complaint i have is the amount of money im spending on mods. Stop complaining, if you want a perfect car buy an S class, and even those have their fair share of problems.

do u guys really think that this is the best car in the 30-35k price range? what about the new maxima's? i had one as a rental & it was pretty nice. as for my problems with my car, i had them fixed today. i needed new brake pads (remember, i only bought this car 3weeks ago) Acura paid for it though.my baby feels alittle better now. after i get some mods, i think i'll be content 4 awhile.

but still have complaints...
1. transmittion not world class smooth
2. brakes aren't powerful
3. can't reallie find a gd position to drive...maybe have to redesign the driver seat...
4. winter warm-ups!!! i would have driven away if i am still drivng my old regal...
5. i must complain about this...PREMIMUM UNLEADED GAS ONLY...that's extra 1000 dollars per yr...a lot less new cars ask for premimum already...

TL Issues
Well a number of you guys don't like your cars! I have a 2002 TLS and a number of your complaints were fixed on that car straight from the factory. I also fixed some of the gripes myself, like the tires. I really like my car, I think it is an outstanding value compared to something like the BMW 330i. I drove the TLS, BMW, Volvo S60, Jaguar X-Type and Audi A4 and the TLS had the most room, best appointments, and strongest engine. The BMW handled a little better, but I fixed that on the TLS with my Wheels, Tires, Spring and shock upgrade. The other thing, when I wash the car I make sure I condition the rubber seals on all the doors and sunroof since they are a source of squeaks when they get dirty. There are a few things I wish were better. They include:
#1 - Sport Shift - I want to control 1st like the BMW and the 2 to 3 shift is slow.
#2 - Give me Fogs that don't have fragile glass lenses. I already had to replace one at $230!
#3 - Give me more supportive seats and a lumbar adjustment that really works.
#4 - How about a light in the engine compartment! Hell that's only $2!
Some asks for 2004:
#1 - 300+ HP in the TLS
#2 - Split fold down rear seats instead of the little hole!
#3 - Stiffer body!
#4 - Turbo?
Well that's my wish list!

Wish list.
Enlarge the wheel wells and fit wider tires. (Keep the double-wishbone though)
6 Speed manual. BMW only loses comparos when they provide an automatic. Mags all quote BMW manual times despite the fact that 90% of those of my friends, family and neighbors are autos.
AWD option.
Honda can make NA power like no one. When you make motorcycles that daily rev to 13,000 rpm it sort of makes the S2000 look like a low RPM slacker. Increasing the HP of the TL-S to around 360 @ 8500 RPM would be awesome. Keep the engine size at 3.2 liters though. While you're at it make sure the car has a demoralizing (to your adversaries) Formula One style scream.
So in summary, 360 HP/9000 RPM engine in an AWD 6 Speed manual package with wider tires.

I just have to post something here:
1. Warped rotors!!!!
2. Defective Power Steering Rack
3. Defective Transmission
4. Intermittant failing rear tail lights
5. Rattles
6. Flexing chassis
7. Cheap Leather
8. Plastic Wood(I would rather have faux plastic plastic)
9. Wimpy A/C for Florida summer in a Black Car
10. Company that won't back up their product
11. No hi-beam HID
12. No memory seating
13. No heated seatback on passenger side (I could do without the sensors)
14. Weak radio
15. No in-dash CD changer standard
16. Lot of road noise inside of cabin from tires.
17. Panzy tires(causing poor handling and braking)
18. In 2000 I had to pay sticker price.
19. Factory authorized chrome wheels have corrosion all over them(maybe my fault, not sure what the problem is)
20. Shifter sucks
21. Sport shift won't let me control 1st gear, therefor I don't use it.
22. Back seat does not fold down for more storage.
23. Doesn't have the motor to compete with it's competitors(except maybe the EX300, but damn is that motor silky smooth)
24. My exhaust tips are crooked (just being picky, but most of the TL's have this same problem. One is higher than the other)
Everything else I like about the car. I do understand that this is a cheap entry level luxury car but add a couple of thousand to the sticker, fix some of the problems and you have a car than cannot be touch by any of the competition. What happened to "Ship it, it's a Honda"

Big Gripe List
Hammerton!
If you that upset sell it and spend 10k to 15k more for a BMW. I'm sure you'll have a list there though as well.
I agree with some of your 24, they were on my list as well. But a number of the items on your list are fixed on my 2002.
And the TL-S 260 HP motor kicks ass compared to the cars I tested. Only the BMW seems slightly stronger and that was due to the fact that it is a smaller car and cost 15k more!

Actually this was a post about Most dissappointing thing, I just had a couple. Over all I don't hate the car, I do HATE Acura the company and that is the reason I would never own another one. I didn't mention things that BMW's have that ours don't because I didn't pay the BMW price. BTW, I have a friend that has the 2002 M3, 2001 X5, he traded in his 1999 M3 for the new one without a SINGLE problem. He also has a 2001 Porche Conv. and that's another story, talk about a crappy radio for >100,000 you would expect more.
I do have some positive things to say about the car, it's just that this post didn't ask for them.
1. Smooth comfortable ride.
2. Great highway gas mileage.
3. Fit and finish is above par
4. I love the sounds of the engine expecially at 4500rpm when the Variable valves kick in
5. People tend to think it's more expensive than it really is.
6. It fits well in my garage, not overly big.
7. I like the looks of the car, unlike most reviewers.
BTW If I had to pay BMW price it should also have!
1. Real Auto Headlamps
2. Electric Memory Tilt and Telescope
3. Auto Up and Down on all windows
4. Auto close/open sunroof
5. Water sensing wipers
6. Auto leveling HID Headlamps
7. This is a big one REAR WHEEL DRIVE!
8. Better Customer Appreciation
9. Thicker glass and interior sound insulation
10. A much better quality audio system.
11. A high-end limited slip posi style drive axle.
12. BTW... part of what I would pay for would be the name and reputation.

1. Real Auto Headlamps
2. Electric Memory Tilt and Telescope
3. Auto Up and Down on all windows
4. Auto close/open sunroof
5. Water sensing wipers
6. Auto leveling HID Headlamps
7. This is a big one REAR WHEEL DRIVE!
8. Better Customer Appreciation
9. Thicker glass and interior sound insulation
10. A much better quality audio system.
11. A high-end limited slip posi style drive axle.
12. BTW... part of what I would pay for would be the name and reputation.

Oh yes, I would! I bought it because of Honda's reputation. I would have been more than happy to spend several thousand more. Actually I did, I had the wheels chromed, wood accents added and other options that raised the price of the vehicle several thousand, why wouldn't I take that several thousand and get the car that has all of the options. As I said before I do not have a problem with the price. I paid $2,000 over sticker (because of options). There really is no competitor to the car, price wise it is the cheapest near luxury car as a matter of fact it is no more expensive than any import with the same or less options, look at the pos Millenia S which I almost bought before I looked at the Acure and Honda's generally hold their value well. I would just like them to add some of the near luxury features competitors have and boost the price a little. It's a moot point know because I wouldn't buy another Acura, it may be that I am just unlucky with my vehicle. At least I thought so until I found this web site and almost every complaint I have has been echoed somewhere in this forum so I am not alone. Again this was a post for the disspointed, and I am. That doens't mean I'm getting rid of the car, I making an effort to keep this one for 5 years. I feel like I am defending my feelings about the car, if you must know other than our experience with Acura the company my wife really likes the car but talks about trading it in on a Lexus SC430 almost monthly. We are just not ready finacially, I told her to wait for 3 more years and we would buy her any car she wanted, which we both agree will not be an Acura.

Alright, already....
Ahum....
"Can't we all....just get along?"
No car is perfect. If I'd wanted full leather seats, less plastic, rear wheel drive, etc., I would've shelled out more money for a BMW 330i, which almost every car enthusiast writer acknowledges is the peak of "entry" luxury sport sedans. I personally hope I don't have tranny failures, major squeaks/bumps, soggy brakes, or anything like that. The fact I have an '02 TL, as noted above, hopefully means that all of these issues from prior model years have been sorted out.
Try to find a car with nearly the number of features the TL has for its price. THAT's why I bought it! It's not a BMW, but certainly compares well for a sports sedan.
Hopefully I'll be saying the same thing when I've had the car for a year.

Can I ask, though (and to anyone else who's disappointed with their car):
Has the dealship been able to fix your car to your satisfaction?
And if they haven't, have you investigated The Lemon Law?

No I am still having problems with my tranny and squeeks but ok other than that. I am afraid my brake problem is going to come back though. I have looked into the lemon law and it requires that you have been stranded for several times.
I don't think my car would qualify for a lemon it's not that bad. It has not stranded me, knock on wood. I had two friends get a buyback from a lemon law. One was on the new Mercury Couger and the other was on a 1993 RX-7 twin turbo which was awhile ago. Interestingly he bought another 1993 RX-7 knowing of all the problems with the 3rd gen.
