Thumbs up More on Bodyshops.......(pics)

Not sure how many of you know, but Back in January 2000, my mom got into an accident with my car.... $9000 in damage, both doors replaced, b-pillar and door jambs replaced, roof buckled up, floor buckled down, rear quarter panel buckled from impact....Look at the second row first pic on the left... The car was like a "V".... Anyways...These idiots who hit my mother(who blew the traffic light) actually collected insurance off our company for damages! I guess it really doesn't pay to be honest in this world ...
Anyways, I specified to the owner at the time that I wanted "Peter" to work on my car and no one else.. Peter is a personal friend of mine, and he's one of the only people I trust to work on my car, as he's worked on my others in the past... Guess what? He didn't touch the car! The shop knows he's their best man, and didn't want him set back on my car..so they gave the work to some other idiot there to do a bad job, and bad job is what he did... I had them repaint the side of the car 3 times and it STILL didn't come out right. At some point I gave up.. I had no car for almost 3 months, and couldn't take it any more..To make a long story short, That owner sold his shares and left the company. I thought I was definately screwed if I ever take the car back to have them fix that side again.. Then I notice some paint bubbling and chipping off on my door(from dust under the paint when they prepped the car to paint)! Now I was pissed! I went back to them this past monday (15 months after they painted the car) and complained to the other owner(now he's alone, with no partner).. Supposedly he's a perfectionist when it comes to these things..my kind of guy.. he was not involved with my car when they had it last time.. Anyways, all the problems I saw on the car I pointed out to him, the chipped paint, the body filler marks, the sloppy edges that is rough, the waves, etc...I told him how meticulous I am, how I see everything.. I showed him things he couldn't believe I would see.. Bottom line, I'm bringing it back again and it's going to be fixed again, FREE.

I remember those pictures...damn...sad to see a damaged TL.

Did they find your Mom to be at fault for the accident? How the heck did they collect money from your insurance?

Rice1304- It looks Un-flush because of the Door moldings to prevent damage from the walls when I park in my driveway. When I bring the car in to them, I'll have them change it to a silver molding(on both sides) if they can.

The situation was this:
My mom was at the light. The light changed, she started rolling forward(not even the first one to roll fromt he light) and this guy blew the light and hit her on the passenger side. Later, police come and claim the light to be out of sequence. The guy claimed he had a yellow light, my mom said green. Due to the fact that it's now an "undetermined fault" because of the traffic light, we figured to sue the city, but by the time that would be over with is an eternity, so we said screw it, just fix the car. Lo and behold, a year later we get attorneys letters from his insurance company. We called our insurance(Geico) to find out what's going on. They are claiming medical damages, severe internal damages, and the damage of the car, which was $1,000 for them. They went all out, chiropractors, doctors, everything! it's all bull$hit I say. Geico doesn't want to deal with any technicalities, so they choose to just settle it. They sued for $25 Million, the driver collected $10,000 and passenger $3,000. His attorney claimed that my mother struck his car, which I can't seem to understand if it's the side of my car and the front of his car with damage..hmm, my mom slid sideways head on to him..makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?..Oh well.. Ya gotta live with the crooks in this world..

I am glad you are getting your car fixed, man.

If anyone wants to see some dead TLs go to the www.copartfinder.com and search for TL. You will find some ugly pictures.

Sounds like something similar to what happened to me. I was in the far right lane with two cars next to me. Altogether the street I was on was seven lanes across with a big median. At any rate, I sitting at the light. Light turns green. Cars next to me starts to go. I start to go. Then bam, I smack into the rear bumper of this car that was screaming across the intersection. I was pissed. The people didn't even stop. They tried to run away. I chased them down and then they tried to blame it on me. Pretended they didn't speak english, gave me an insurance card that was expired two years ago. Then get this they called their boyfriends out to intimidate me. I knew what was up when they took forever to call 911, so I had them drive in front of me to a big bright gas station. Sure enough the boyfriends came out but by this time the cops had come cause there was another accident at an intersection further down the street.

My mom was on a 3 lane road in the right lane waiting for the light with two other cars in the other two lanes.. they were well ahead of her when she got hit, just to show that she didn't even gun it...

Wow! I went to that site with all the wrecked TLs.

What I think is amazing is that several of those cars didn't look like they had enough damage to total a car as expensive as the TL. I guess that just goes to show how expensive it is to fix these things when they get busted.

65% of the total cost of damages or more and it's considered totalled..

Man I really feel bad everytime I see pictures like this.

One second you’re car’s as good as new the next second it’s a mess. And all it takes is a second’s worth of lapse of concentration or stupidity on someone’s part.

Next time you guys have an accident, especially in California, please email me because I work in claims for AAA and I can probably answer some of your questions. No, I won't charge you per minute

Didn't know about your accident. Damage looks pretty substantial. With that much damage, I think I rather the insurance company declare the car totaled.

That accident scenario you described sounds familiar. I know someone who went through the same bull. The lesson for me is that, unless I'm in a rush, I don't gun it at an intersection once the light turns from red to green. I pause just for a sec to make sure no moron decides to blow a red at the intersection. That extra second to pause is nothing in comparison to the misery you and your mom had to put up with. But glad to hear things are working OK at the shop.
