Modded 99' tl-p v.s Modded 97' A4
Ok, i have a 99' TL-p with V2 inake, headers, and apexi ws2 exhaust. My friend has a 1997 5-speed A4 with a GIAC chip, and an CAI. Just wondering who would win on a flat out race, not a back road race. I know he kills me in the corners, damn our FWD. Just wondering cause i know his car has nothing on me stock, but with the GIAC chip gives him 45hp and 50lb tq. Just trying to get your guys opinion, Thanks
Oh and if this thread is not in the right place, my bad.

I cannot believe that a chip can add 45HP and 50/tq more, someone else tell me if I am wrong. That sounds highly exaggerated. Does he have the 2.8 or 1.8T. Honestly in a straight you should be able to beat him. This thread is going to be moved to racing & competition.

Agree, The 1.8T engines can get 400hp out of them with the right engine management system and intake system.. I could barely keep up with a chipped, intaked, 2002 GTI 1.8T yesterday.... The 1.8 is slow stock but it is a great platform to build on..
I bet the race goes to him, but I hope you take it... tel us how it goes.
Oh and Justin the headers are in the mail now.. I was tight on money the past few weeks... you'll have them soon.

Don't under-estimate turbo-charged engines. My wife had a '97 A4 2.8V6 before. The engine is lame. Not much can be done to have hugh gains for naturally aspirated engines, same as our 3.2LV6, unless going for force-induction.
But aftermarket chips can really crank up the turbo boost to give loads of additional hp and low-end torque. Up to 75 hp gain is not uncommon for extra heavy boost and new pop-off valve. But engine life is another question.
The stock A4 1.8T gives 170hp and 166tq. The same 1.8T when used in TT gives 225hp and 207 tq. That's an increase of 55 hp and 42tq from factory tuning. Sure aftermarket chips can do better than that, without the burden of providing engine warranty.
One thing to watch out for is that FWD A4 is faster than Quattro A4, unless the road is wet and curvy.
