Mirror problem!

so the rear view mirror started leaking black substance, which i read online contains mercury. i wanted to get the mirror out of the car so i does not leak anymore. being saturday evening all dealers and junkyards are closed by now. unfortunately when i was removing the mirror, the bracked ended up breaking off takin a pretty large chunk of the windshield with it (about the size of a dime). i removed the bracket from the mirror but im wondering what i should do to prevent the entire windshield from cracking now. any ideas?

lucky for your the junkyard was closed or you would have gotten another bad unit-
the `rearview mirror exploded` thread contains details of maker change to unit- but they no longer hand out freebies
Many sold online are old units that were supposed to be returned to maker on warranty

sorry to hear of your problem--
the mirror can be purchased online thru dealers that support acurazine for a discounted price of about 75 dollars- retail is 140

or your local dealer might have one and do a price match for you

as for the glass- the DIY here cautions against twisting and hammering on the old unit as the front windshield will crack and break from the stress
Its replacement glass time

but Im no glass band-aid expert
so ask a glass company if their `epoxy fix` for small cracks will do- or are you looking at 350 $ replacement glass? plus mirror cost

i dont realy care for the mirror to be dimming or not. are there any other honda mirrors that are compatible? as for the windshield, i guess ill use some mirror glue from an auto parts store and hope it doesnt crack when it gets cold. I called up my buddy today and he estimated a new windshield to cost around $200 installed. hopefully it doesnt come to that tho.

that would be a bargain at 200!

you can install a basic mirror with a glue on mount like normal cars have
or they may have suction cup ones
see parts stores for help

YIKES! I don't want a mercury-containing mirror & I don't care if it's specialized. Just want a rearview (preferably discount) mirror that will work in my '99 Acura. Any suggestions?

Once the original mirror is removed, you should be able to mount a regular type of mirror onto the windshield. Try your local salvage wrecking yard for a replacement fit. Perhaps something off of an Accord would match up.

Let glue dry longer than you think,,,before mirror install
dont ask ~

if you want the stock type dimming mirror= the NEW innards have been changed to a safe product
our sponsoring dealers will hook you up for 80 bucks,, retail price 140

at a loss of how much forward vision into the turn?
the stock mirror bothers me enough to remove for track days
it blocks right where I need to be looking
