Question Miles per tank??

Even since I have my TLS, it seems that it eats my gas tremendously compared to my old accord. I understand that TLS is a V6, but is it normal to have a little less than 300 miles per tank?? I drive a mixture of highway and city.

In my '00 TL, I usually got between 320-350 miles per tank, depending on how aggressively I drove.

So far in my TLS, I am getting more like 250-280 miles per tank, but I only have 400 miles on the car. I remember with my last TL that the mileage steadily improved the first few months I owned the car, so you may just be experiencing poor gas mileage during the breakin period. After you get a few thousand miles on the car, it should be better - at least that's what I am hoping for.

I have 1500 miles on my Type S and I am just now starting to get 260-280 miles to a tank. I have noticed that it had been increasing with each tank however. I am also not exactly a conservative driver.

You should see vast improvement soon after break-in period. My 400SE used to get 185 miles out of 100L tank when still in break-in period, and now I get constant 200-225 miles depends on how aggressive I drive.

I would say, give it about 2 months after break-in period is over, and see...

I was told that if you live in an area of the country where they use oxygenated fuel (i.e. methanol added) for emissions reasons during the winter, your mileage will be lower. I noticed in my car that I get 40-50 less miles on a tankful in winter versus summer...

Thumbs up

MosTLS,

Interesting... do you know if the Techtron that Cheveron put in their gasoline is the same as Methanol?? Thnx for the info... learn new things everyday..

Since we are talking about mileage here, do any of you have any preference of gas brand??

I used to put Arco in my Jeep, and Cheveron 94 Octane in my 400SE. After this tank of free gas from Acura, I will be putting Cheveron 92 in my TLS...

Here are my stats on gas and mileage.
I have 3200 miles on my TL-S. I did not track the first 2 tanks..

Most Miles on a tank: 393
Second Most Miles on a tank: 385
Largest Fill-up: 15.2 Gallons (US)
Best Mileage per tank: 27.5 mpg
Worst Mileage per tank: 21.2 mpg
Overall mileage average..

2024 miles @ 82.16 Gallons = 24.6 mpg

So far, it has not been that bad at all!
BTW - I have been using Premium all the way.

Elevation is a factor as well. All milage rating are taken at sea level. As elevation goes up, gas milage goes down.

I used to have a Civic which they claim to be 33MPG or better. But being here in Calgary and 3000ft up from sea level, all I can get is 28-30MPG max.

My first tank I got about 450 miles (From Milwaukee to Beloit to Minneapolis). This was mostly highway driving since I picked up my car from out of state dealer and drove it back.

According to the manual your tank is 17.7 gallons.

Considering that the car will rev at around 1500 to 1750 rpms at about 60-65 mph!! I think the 29 mph highway rating is VERY realistic if you push past the red "empty" light for about fifty miles. I am averaging about 280 miles per tank, only cuz I love to feel the power as often as I can, and I'm driving in the city. That STILL ain't so bad considering many V8's will get 24 mpg under the best conditions!

Life is about compromises, and I think my TL-S won every one of those so far in my book!
