Question Maxima 2k1 SE 20th Ann- Manual-Race?

Friend of mine has a Maxima 2k1 20th ann (230 hp?) manual. Can my stock 2k2 TLS take him on? Mine is pure stock with 35,500 miles with same stock tires. I know I have to get new tires, thinking about Sumi HTR (better value). He has under body kit and Michelons Pilot A/S tires. Got drunk at happy hour last night and starting talking some smack. Can our TLS back it up?

Does he know how to drive. A stick Max can beat us if he knows how to drive. So it all depends on his skill. A auto Max is nothing.

Do a SEARCH there are tons of threads on this.

Sorry didn't notice that it's not the 255hp Max. You might have a shot. I've never raced a older Max....

Do it and see the outcome... You should win...

Red face

Found endless debates regarding 2k2 maxima races then the 2k1 maxima 20th anniversary SE manual. Race is next Wed (kills the mid-week boredom at work) and peeps at work already have an betting pool going on. WTF....pressure is on now. Now I'm gunning my car at every stop to practice.

dude, as long as u dont mess up, ull torch his car...

maximas are fast but that special edition is only 5more HP... 227HP vs your 260

granted he has a stick but if we're able to hang with the manual 255HP max's, beating the 227HP manual aint gonna be a problem. just make sure u turn off all electrical stuff, close all windows, warm up ur tires before hand so they can grip, let your engine cool a little, brake torque to 3000 and then go

You might wanna go ahead and "invest" in your new tires, keep the ac system off and be sure to turn off your VSA. Some of those Maxima boards are putting that car just under 15 sec 1/4 mile stock.
And for gs--Please be careful and avoid endangering someone else...

You might also want to reduce the front tire psi by a few, for better traction at take off

Thanks for all the info. I'll just turn off the VSA, dump out some air on my stock tires, A/C off, keep engine cool, and let my foot pound the gas pedal.

Don't know how and too afraid to learn how to gate shift (don't want tran problems).

I think I'll get the new Sumi tires after cause I don't want him to think that I got new tires just for the race and I might as well burn the hell out of the stock ones first.

Hopefully I'll get one of those "saw him at my rear mirror" outcomes. Regarding safety, we have this 2-3 mile empty road at night cause the whole place is a corporate area and it is ghost after 6pm.

You might be able to get this one if he misses a shift and as far as the 02 Auto Maxima vs TLS you'll get mixed bags. Maxima guys say that thy can edge the TLS and TLS guys say the same I own them both and they are pretty evenly matched.

i really dont think the auto max is gonna beat a SS Type S

but yeah i wanna see this... when u slam ur gas, make sure that u brake torque (hold brake and give gas until ure at about 3000RPMs, then let go the brake and slam ur gas).

gateshifting is easy... u keep it in D1, then go to D2, D3 and u probably wont need to go past that...

just keep in mind that the TL doesnt have much highway power. if u hit 100, itll take some time before u keep gaining speed. so make sure u let everyone know its gonna be a ~1/4mile race

A properly driven TL-S can BEAT any of the following Maximas:

1) 95-99 Manual or Auto
2) 00-01 Manual or Auto
3) 02-03 Auto

02-03 Manual is close....my friend has a 2K3 Titanium Edition 6-speed and everytime we race its neck and neck (he's a good driver too).

Here is the way to get the most out of the TL-S.....

Shut VSA off, put it in Sportshift, floor it, let the computer in SS shift from 1-2 (similarily to the way you would do in D5 mode), and rediline shift in SS from 2nd to 3rd gear. You will definitely start pulling on him pretty hard in 3rd gear if you hold it all the way to redline. Let us know how it goes..........

I have to disagree with the 02/03 auto I have both and have lined the TLS up with the Max on several occassions. The Max always get the TLS up to 50 by 3/4 car and the TLS slowly creeps up and this is with great launches and swapping drivers. aproperly driven 02/03 manual is competition for the CLS manual, I have seen these 2 go at the track with very mixed results on a few runs the Max got the CLS and vis versa.

Truer words have never been spoken. I've never lost to a TL-S but if I had a TL-S, I think I could take most stock 2K2 Maximas. Its like hairsplitting when measuring the peformance of both since they're both REALLY even.

As for the TLS vs 2K1 AE Max, I'll put my money the TL-S in this instance UNLESS the 2K1 Max has any components of I/H/E. (With a couple of boltons, the Y2k-2K1 Max 5sp is as quick/fast as the 2K2+ 6sp.) If stock though, the TL-S should be the victor.

Hey Monte, assuming you're married, which car does your wife drive? Just curious.

Peace.

I am married and to be honest she prefers the Max, the TLS has given us so many problems since day one and it was hers. If I dont leave first in the morning shes in the Max all the time, we are about to rid ourselves of the TLS next month for a 350Z we had on order her choice again.

To help some friends assure themselves that they are Irish, we went out to happy hour last night. Our mouths started going off and decided to start this race tonight.

So 8:30 pm, temp around 55. Lined up with his 2k1 Max on the empty roadway by all our corporate buildings. Security rent-a-cop even came over to help and he stayed at the end of the road to make sure no sleepy workaholic comes out and gets in the way.

At this time I feel like I'm in a sauna and sweating all over (newbie at this). Been practicing brake troque all weekend, hope thats okay for my brakes though cause everytime I practice it, I smell something burning. Followed everyones advice, no AC, no VSA, engine cool, etc.

A friend flashes his headlights to start and off we go. My tires were spinning like a top the first half second and I thought I lost for sure. But once it caught grip, my neck snaps back and I'm head and head with his Max. After 50mph, TLS starts to really go and I start to get a reflection of his headlights. (Note-my eyes only concentrated on the road, too scared to even look at the mirrors. ) At 125 I killed it and slowed down. That's when I see him 2 car lengths behind me.

All my co-workers even said they thought I lose after my tires starting to spin but saw that I killed him my 2 car lengths. Of course he wanted a rematch and I gladly obliged with the same result. Got $200 from the betting pool and now I might tint my windows with the loot. (my car is pure stock! /SS/Navi) WOW-what a rush, now I know how ya's feel. My legs were all wobbly and shaking afterwards, or is it just me?

Thanks to everyones advice. I feel like treating ya to a drink. TLS represented! I thought my stock tires were gonna lose it for me cause it's on it's last tread, 36000 miles. Now to get the Sumi tires. Again, thanks!

Nice kill! That stock air filter looks like a block of wood! Drop in a K&N. Had some highway romps this past weekend and could definitely tell the car pulled harder from 75-100+. Left everyone in the dust (had a couple losers trying to keep up)...

He said he just glances at the site once in awhile. Basically he's still flamed that he should of waited
another 2 months so he could of got the 2k2 manuel model w/255 hp. Sucker, paid that extra loot for a
20th anniversary edition, wonder if that even helps on resale value. He probably wouldn't want to be
posting this outcome on his board.
