Matching fog lights?

Sup guys.

Just wondering if you guys have any suggestions. I want to get my foglights the same color as my stock HID headlights.... do i have to go HID with the fogs? or is their some sort of aftermarket bulbs that i can grab that has a similar tone of color?

it's always the best go just go with hid. cost more but can't beat the result.

but if price is your concern, get razo, silverstar, or piaa

I went with Silverstar and the first one died three weeks ago(1 year), the second died yesterday. So, like others have noticed, the Silverstars will give you about 1 year of life. At 50 bucks a pair I really don't care for the lifetime/expense ratio. Perhaps I'll try Razo next. Anyone else?

I was pondering this question also. I've heard bad reviews on the Silverstars also, but then again you prob wont get a long life from any aftermarket bulb (maybe piaa though).

Any other suggestions??

I was also going to look into buying new bulbs for my fog lights and was ready to do a search on "Superwhite" in this forum. I thought I saw that somewhere but didn't do a search yet. I'm looking for a light that better matches the headlight color, and doesn't require having to rewire my car! Any suggestions?

Wow, those bulbs look great. I am slightly confused. Xenon is mentioned in the description along with OEM.

Would I need to replace the ballasts if I got these bulbs? Looking specifically at the gold bulbs.

Those are pretty good. They look like a pretty good match. If you were to buy them again would you still buy them.

Well I bought the GOLD versions after the superwhites ran out. All I know is that I'm definitely NOT going to pay high prices for bulbs any longer. So for now, I think I'll be sticking to these 2 companies for long time. Unless I turn to HIDs.

beeeeee caaaaaarefull. 80 watts is probably pushing the limits for the wiring. Also, I hope the heat doesn't melt your light casing.

Maybe...but this was the very same reason WHY I bought them last year...so I can personally try them out...and report back to the masses whether or not using them for a full year will melt my wiring harness. Did they? No. I understand that there will always be skeptics...so for those people, there ARE 55W Eaglite bulbs available for the same price...just don't expect them to be as bright.

I've moved on to GOLD right now since I keep running across multiple posts where people want to have GOLD/YELLOW fogs. I figure if I try these and report back and help people out. This should definitely open up alternatives from having to buy expensive bulbs or going all out and fabricating colored filter lenses.

edgalang,

I'm glad they have worked out! Sometimes the only way to find out is to just try it.

How do the Eaglite 55w stack up to the silverstars? Would I have better luck?

Wow..... those 80W really look good. But dang.. main conern is the wiring now. I guess the 55W would look the same, but too bad it's not gonna be as bright.

What about high beams? Any suggestions?

Ordered, PayPal is annoying, but should be well worth it if the Golds look as good in person as they do in pictures.

Honestly...I can't really comment on the 55W superwhite version because I've never seen them personally. My guess is that it would be just as bright as silverstars (remember...higher watts = higher lumens...so do the math). Maybe I would try them out just to see, AFTER my GOLD burns out...problem is you would have to wait around a year to hear any further results from me. Since Eaglites seem to have the best price/performace ratio of any bulbs I've seen, with only $15 a pair, I doubt there is anything to loose.

No need to be a skeptic, as I've laid everything out in the open to be reviewed/criticised. I've personally tried out the brand...I reported back how long they lasted for...I posted pics on what they look like...I posted the condition of my wiring harness after a year of use...and most important, I've verified the legitimacy of the merchant. If I had the balls to try out the 80W (risking wiring harness & initially trusting my money to an unknown merchant)...diving in for $15 for 55W should be a breeze!

P.S.
Let's zoom out a bit. Worse case scenario is that the bulbs suck. Well...then post info about it! You would be helping the TL community a lot either way. Imagine if you DO happen to like them...the price of 2 Eaglites is less than the price for 1 Silverstar!

Thanks, edgalang. I appreciate the info. The dealership I bought my car from has some aftermarket parts, and they carry bulbs for the fogs. They're $25 (not sure if that's each or for two), but I'll find out what those are. I might check them out, but I really like the ones you installed. Looks great in the photos.

If I get the ones from the dealer, I'll post results.

Just FYI to all concerned, the Max Golds are on back order. This is why I do not like Pay-Pal.

All is left but the waiting.

For those that have changed the lights, is it reasonable to expect it to take 45-60 minutes?

It took me 30 minutes to change all 4 of my lights, and I suck at things like that. It would have been 15 minutes if I had a flat head screw driver handy.

I've used the Eaglites in my F4i, and they really looked great. I was thinking about ordering a set of 9006s for the fogs on my '03 TL-P.

BTW, I've always used midnightmoose.com to get the Eaglites. They cost $15.49 a pair plus shipping.

They offer 10% discount to car forums, if the admin wants to get together with them and set it up....but for the time being, you could use the PT Cruiser club discount code of "PTCHHD" to get 10% off the purchase price.

Can you use the club discount code even though you are NOT getting the PT cruiser bulb kit? Remember the PT cruiser uses 9005xs & 9006xs while our TLs use 9005 & 9006 (sans xs).

BTW...xs bulbs are straight...while normal ones use a 90 degree elbow.

It doesn't matter what you're buying...
It just gives you the flat 10% off of the merchandise total.

We've been down this road before. I'd love the HID's, but do not think I am talented enough for the install + my lights crack anytime the smallest pebble is near.

<-- Getting the Eaglites. Exactly what I've been looking for.

Thanks for the info, guys.

By the way, how do you install them? Crawl underneath the front bumper, pull out the foglight assembly and switch bulbs or what?

edgalang - can you post a pic of your car with superwhites and gold fogs. I just want to make a comparison. Im thinking about getting gold now cause I dont want to spend the money on HIDs and its hard to get a close match to the headlights.

I've been using the Solaris bulbs for my fogs for the past year, and have been pretty happy with them. However, one of them burned out recently. When i went to order another set, the price had jumped to $99. There's no way I'm spending $100 for bulbs, so I just ordered a set of the those Eaglites. I'm not really concered about the wattage, as the Solaris bulbs were also 80W. For only $20/pair, I'll give them a shot.

Did anyone aside from me order anything from this guy? I ordered the golds the first day and they seem to be on some kind of back order?

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?

By the time I posted about these bulbs in this forum, people in the "other" forums where already buying them, so I seriously doubt you were one of the first. You can always cancel them and go with the superwhites instead if waiting is a problem.

Waiting is not so much the problem... Since day one in my TLS I have wanted Yellow (true) fog lights and my excitement is making the wait hard to bear.

That is all. I am not complaining, just anxious!
