manual transmission
manual transmission
I currently do not own a TL. I have driven nothing but manual transmission vehicles all my life ( 1972 Datsun 240Z,76 Datsun 280 Z, 1980,83,and 86 Honda Preludes,1990 Sentra,92 and 94 Nissan pickups.Does anybody think that there is even a slight chance that the TL will ever offer a manual t ?If it had one now I would buy as soon as I could. Thanks
Well, the TL should have 6spd coming out sooner or later. I say that they will offer it about 6 month to 1 year after the CL-S got it.
But that's just what I am gussing here...
If you must have a manual tranny, then I guess you are into performance. Then you should check out the Maxima. Okay, I am a TL owner, but I have to say that Maxima is a pretty fast family sedan. I don't like the styling of the car, but at least you can get a SC for Maxima like rightaway and I know that the tranny can hold up, cuz my friend SC his 5spd maxima.
The new Altima will get 6spd with 255hp I beieve. Which will be a hell of a car as well.
just my $0.02

I WAS THE SAME WAY...
I had 5-spds all my life and then I got a TL-S. I REALLY miss the 5-spd, but my wife would not drive one. I test drove a Maxima and would have gotten one, but i had to get an auto. What you miss out on with the auto is:
>Holding first gear (I know you can do it manually, but you can do that with ANY auto)
>Being able to rev the engine at the light (without looking like an idiot when you HAVE to put it in drive)
>Being to hit the clutch and coast
>Being able to get sweet launches w/o screwing up your brakes
>Most importantly, the actual "rowing" of the gears
Damn, I miss that stuff!!!

Anyway, I've regained some of that stick shifting fun with the TLS. Yeah, you can't rev your engine at the light or hold 1st gear, but that SportShift is absolutely great for passing and engine braking around corners.
Re: I WAS THE SAME WAY...
There is more to it than that.
- Making faster shift.
- What I miss the most, is putting the gear, but not leting the clutch go until needed. Like cornering, put the gear in entering the curve and let go the clutch exiting the corner.
- Downshifting 2 or more gears at once. Like from 5th to 3rd instead of 5th > 4th > 3rd. Very very useful.
- Don't have to hold the brake on stop lights.
Manual is so cool, but then again there are disavantages too.
I know maximas are manual and I sound like I'm in need of one, but they are just so UGLY........not way I'll stick to automatic tranny. I could get a BMW or C320 but too much money for nothing.
