Major Ronjon Problem
Major Ronjon Problem
[IMG][/IMG] Customer Service, i think companies need to learn more about this. So my rim cracked today, i have about 10k on the rims TOPS, these RON JON rims are NOT THE CHEAPEST out there, 350 for an 18'' isnt that cheap. well it cracked and RONJON says that that type of crack is probably from an impact and is not warenteed, hmm my dad had a similar one on his 2004 z06 from rim failure, what did the dealer do..... give him a new rim. well i dont think i will be getting a new rim from this guy. has anyone else had a similar problem? i am curious if more rims have failed in the same way. my thoughts are that if more then one has then this is something thats needs to be looked into. Customer serive.. companies need to learn how to take care of their customers, even if that means takin a hit on some profit.

Try Photobucket and create an account. Load photo, copy the IMG url and paste in the reply window. As far as the wheel is concerned, haven't heard of anyone having problems with the RJ wheels. Don't know the specifics of the warranty so can't comment on that. The Inspyres and Servos have been around for awhile and Rondog's been a vendor/member on this site for a long time.
Too much damn chrome to see....haha. Try taking a pic with no flash. So the crack is parallel to the rim...thats odd. Never saw a crack like that. Interesting to see what other members think.

yess, you are well heard about him being a vendor/member, that is what i am talking about in regards to service. for example, my father has a 10sec z06, has eveything u can image done to it. when he broke some things on the car the person who made the parts charged him nothing for the new parts, he took the hit, why becuase of forums like this, ppl hear of things like that and then buy in that bc they know they will get taken car of. i mean 350+ a rim is NOT cheap by any standard, i just expect good service for products that are expensive. i am hoping that this issue will get resolved but so far the olny offer has been to wave the shipping if I PICK THE RIM UP, i mean i think something more then that can be done, companies just need to learn to put the customer first......

I must say, I have never seen a crack like that also. This concerns me because I have the same set of rims but with a machined face. I would like to see what becomes of this issue, please keep us updated.
i have contacted him, unfortunatly he said they are closed, well the warehouse is until the 2nd, and i need to be back to school on the 2nd so this is going to be a problem, the local mechanics think that its a failure of the rim, they have seen this before in aftermarket rims as they are usally made of not the best materials, they stated specificaly chinese and russian steel as a major source of problems, ronjon wants the rim and to look at it and then it might not even be warenteed....... we will see, have other people had problems like this???
i dont see how a crack like that can be caused by a pot hole, hitting a curb, or anything else. That sucks because I was really considering buying these same rims in 18" Chrome. I will never stop hearing it from my wife if I spent that kinda cash then had this crack problem.
Just curious what color car you have? If silver can u post pic of the entire car with rims on?

well i have had nothing but good things to say until now, i just cant say 1400 for the crome 18'' was worth it if i dont get some satisifaction here, and as said above, i dont know how this could have happen and its probably not from a pothole or anything like that. the car is black with the crome rims, not silver

I would stay in touch with him. In his defense it is the holiday season so maybe you can work things out at the beginning of the new year.
I hope everything works out for you because that is alot of money invested to have it crack like taht

can not speak on the rim but will say that I have delt with Ron in the past through numerous PMs. I would say that he has been more than helpfull and prompt in his replies. I have the same style rims just not chrome and I also have the 19s and have yet to have a problem with them in any manor. I also have place a depost with him for the CL body kit because of my impression with him and the look and quality of his products. Hopefully you two can work out a mutural arangment....best of luck.
I don't know about an impact, but I'd be UPset if I had that experience with a $350 rim. My wife also would never let me hear the end of it! Some level of impact obviously has to be factored in; it's on a car for Pete's sake! That's too much money (x4) for the vendor to simply walk away from the customer. I agree that good customer service is highly important, and vendors should err on the "customer is always right" side. It's just good business, and encourages repeat business. Ronjon should replace the wheel, and the user should SERIOUSLY consider a tire with a higher profile if this car is a daily driver.
all i can say is time will tell, even if it was impact, which i dont think it was due to the fact i havent hit anything, i would still expect some type of warentee/discount this should not happen even if it was impact the rim should not have failed, if anything the tire should have blown out which i have heard of happening many of times.
we will see what happens, i would like to know what others think, as i dont think it was impact and the bulge out from the tire is in my opinion due to the fact that the rim is wider now and is split

Bling-Bling law of phyics ...
Large rims + thin profile tire + drop = looks pimp
Large rims + thin profile tire + drop + modest impact = bent rims - looks pimp
Happens all the time. That is why I would NOT go larger than an 18" but I would get a larger profile that what u have pictured.
my final thoughts are this, look i should get some type of discount, 100, 200 off something like that, i would even be willing to pay his cost whatever that might be, i am just upset over this, and will not recomend this product if i do not get some type of satisification. was there a hit, maybe maybe not, should have the rim failed? maybe maybe not. should i get some compensation, yes. but 25 off is nothing. i hope you all can see where i am coming from

I understand you are put out by this....but from my history of dealing with ANY custom part...that is also the chills and spills of it. It NEVER is convenient. Take it off...send it in and see what happens. But...if you KNOW up front that it is an impact, which you almost go so far as say in your last post....dont expect to come to any BB and strong arm somebody into making an unwise business decision. That would only line them up for everybody else to do the same, ending up in a failed business. I might have left the fact that this is your basic reason for this thread also as it tends to make one suspect. Just chill out and send it in and see what happens. Fact is...THE MAN IS CLOSED ISNT HE? And that seems to be most of what you are mad about! Companies must set a schedule and set hours....and what you are asking is WAY out of the ordinary if he is not even going to be there open for business.
i agree ^^ from what i've known ronjon has always been good service wise. In any case, from the pictures, it looks like you hit a pothole or something because the lip of the rim does indeed look bent. If this is the case, it is your responsibility to get the rim fixed...not ronjon's responsibility to replace it for you. Read through the forums, a bunch of people have bent their rims (any company) and have had to get them repaired.
Wow, I came across this thread for the first time.
I have to bring up that snow dude threatened me with starting a post if i didn't cover the wheel under warranty. That being said, even on a personal level made me rethink any goodwill warranty coverage.
Now there is no way in hell that a wheel would spontaniaously crack while driving. We have never had a structural or surface problem with these wheels and I am willing to say that imapct caused this (until I see the wheel in person). WHICH is not under warranty. We cannot warranty physics, curbage or pothole damage; and that is a possibility with 18" wheels and thinner tires than OEM. These things do happen.
And in my defence, I have had 19" Inspyres on my car for 2 years now, with not a single bend or crack at all, and I drive through the 5 buroughs. I even bent my suspension arm and damaged a driveshaft from impact where the wheel remained in tact. Part of any warranty is to have the claim in question in our posession for inspection, not to have blurry pics and make a decision. So until then I cannot give a final answer. And We are not obligated to give you ANY discount, expecially for the way you submitted your claim and they way you treated this situation. Do not let this board member with 117 posts come in and potentially lie to cover up his claim as our fault in any way. 1 wheel in over 800 sets sold speaks for itself.
Sorry that it is not convenient to you that our warehouse is closed for holiday between the 25th of Dec to the 2nd of Jan, but thats the way things usually are, people work and need vacations in this world.

Also, the tire holds air just fine and the wheel is not showing any vibration as snowdude has told me. I might add that with a cheap tire (not saying snowdude has cheap tires) could potentially be a factor, Toyo proxes4 have repeatedly proven to be protective where as nankang tires for 1/2 the price will not support properly or hold shape after an impact, causeing damage to the wheel under impact.
