maintenence required light

my m.r. light just went on recently and i have no idea why. the only thing thats wrong with my tl is the transmission is on the way out. could this be it, or is there some other underlying issue. is there a common problem that this light could have gone on for? i have a 01 tl wit about 74k on it. thanks!

read the manual. its there for a reason. if you dont have time for that here is a little lodown on the light. its no warning for any thing wrong. it was designed to be reset on every oil change, and is only a reminder to chaing oil (when reset at oil changes) it goes off around 75oo miles

hmmm, now I know why fsttyms has over 9,000 posts, lol...

man, read the manual, or at least search the site.

HOLD Select and Reset buttons, at the same time turn the key either into ACC (II), or just start the car. Keep holding until the main. req. light goes away.

The reason your maintenance required light went on is most likely because your car requires some maintenance.

In your case, if you did your 60k maintenance, then all you probably need is just an oil change.

Don't start the car, just turn it to the 2nd position.
If you hold them down and start the car and keep holding them, this is how you change the outside temp my the odometer + or - 3 degrees. Just to let you guys know.

Why don't you just try it first then get back to me.
To change the outside temp +or - 3 degrees, you hold the select and reset button and start the car and wait. It will cycle through from +3 to -3, then release when you want the desired change.

If you turn the key to ACC, hold down both buttons and start the car, then it resets the maintenance light. I think you're mistaken, lbbrando.

its in your manual. it will go off ever 7k or so. that it went off for your 60k is pure coincidence
