magnaflow catback sound
hey guys (especially those with magnaflows), id like to know how a magnaflow catback exhaust sounds on a TL. i heard bigman's sound clips but the sound isnt very nice (i mean the quality)...
id like to know if it sounds more like a V8 or if it sounds more like a civic cx with a ractive muffler... i want an exhaust with a deep tone not ricey-loud ****.
i get a lot of compliments about how nice my car sounds (intake) and i dont want to ruin it with a crappy sounding exhaust system...
thanks a lot

it's all in the resonator!
the shorter the res the deeper the sound. i went 20", and it was deep with i/h/e nos, and lowered vtec, but am going to see what a 12" res sounds like!

I just had a magnaflow exhaust installed today. I used 4x9 oval (14" long) mufflers in the rear and simply deleted the rear (short, fat) resonator. The tone is deep and loud, but a little too loud (interior resonance at freeway speed). So I am going to go back and install a 4" round (14" long) resonator where the factory one was. To hush it down a hair while cruising. But I do love the tone. Sounds real good when you start it up. I'll post pics soon. The double wall tips look nice.

I have a new (month old) Magnaflow cat back system. I did a great deal of research before committing to a set up cause I too wanted a deep rumble without the raspyness. I was told the shorter the resonator the higher the pitch and the louder it would be. I went with the longest one Mag. makes, the 22" vs. the 18 or 12. I chose the single wall 4" dia mirror stainless steel ovals. I can produce a drone at will or not. At highway speeds 60-70 it is quiet. I love this setup. When I'm on it, it is aggressive, deep and turns heads, but is very civilized when I want it to be. Mine does indeed sound like a small block V-8. Hope this helps.
