Lowering springs and scraping
Lowering springs and scraping
I am interested in getting some lowering springs for my car. I need some advice on which ones to get and is there any problem with scraping the bottom of your car or the bodykits??
I got the H&R Sports which are cheaper then the Comptech but provide a very similar drop.
I have no problem scraping, although with a bodykit it would be close in spots. If you really want to lower your car but you're really nervous.... get a coilover kit so you can adjust your height to what you like.....

I've talked to many people with the H&R Sport, Comptech's & Sportlines...all have been scraping their front lips on just about everything.
I purchased the H&R OE Sports, but have not installed them yet. I went with OE to avoid scraping my kit. Others with the OE haven't had as many scrapes. (only in steep incline/decline driveways, etc.)

Everything you'll scrape with depending on how fast or at what angle you take things at. My friend has a comptech drop on his TL and has scratched his lip numerous of times. The only way to have a nice drop and not scrape is get 19s for your ride and clear the gap with some coilovers and drive slow

i have the eibach prokit... i have NEVER scrapped my lip... i did almost tear off the plastic cover under the engine on the cemnt things when parking forward (it caught on to the medal stud). also... sometimes when i go over those really big speed bumps... the really wide ones... i sometimes hit the y-pipe in the back if im going like about 6 or 7 mph... so i go really slow over those. other than that i never have any problems.

I have no kit but 18"x7.5" wheels with the Comptechs...I haven't taken out my spoiler yet, but speedbumps and such are fine unless I put four 250 pounders in the car with fours sets of golf clubs. The back hits the tires at the 'ol course...
I had H&R Sport Springs and they were GREAT!. You will eventually scrap ur bodykit no matter what. Some dips/bumps/curb are just too deep you can't do anything about it but scrap your bodykit. It scrap mine probably on a daily basis...front lip still in one piece, you can't even see the scrap unless you bend down to take a look from the bottom.
Getting the black plastic piece is not usual, it's all scratched up but it's still in one piece. I do once and a while get the exhuast Y-pipe.
A TIP, for those BIG DIPS and SPEED BUMPS ...take them at an ANGLE and SLOWLY!!!! A couple of times, i underestimate the dips or speedbumps and i go a bit too fast..It usually hits the frame, the 2 black metal piece on each side of the car. The car will go up with the speedbump and when it goes down, the frame lands on the speedbump. It doesn't scrap, it lands on it.

i had H&Rs with body kit, and they are actually not that low that you will scrape...as long as you drive carefully. i've noticed that they are actually high enough that you can clear most of those parking blocks and curbs with your front end (still don't risk it too much thou...some blocks/curbs are higher than others...)
I have eibach Springs and 18" 40 225/40 series wheels and tires. No body kit. After clipping the extra plastic on the passenger side, I have no problem loading my car up with the same 4 people at work (200(me) + 350 (we call him big dog) + 175 + 240) and can take a speed bump/curb at any speed. I've not had a single rub. In fact, I've not heard a rub in 1+ years now.
Ive infact only scratched once and that was my fault for mis-judging the distance to the curb in front of me.

I finally got the OEs installed last week. The total drop was approx 1" all the way around. The ride is very close to stock. Slightly more harsh over rough bumps, a little more soft during normal driving.
I really didn't want to drop this car, but losing the front wheel gap is necessary. IMO, this drop is perfect for anyone not wanting to worry about scraping anything and still being able to drive normal.

Your front wheel gap looks bigger than the rear? Hmm...not to dis you, but I am glad I picked my H&R sports
I do have some ocassional scrap problem. There are some nasty curb that I need to go once in a while. But they are mostly at odd places that I don't frequent often. Just go slow and it should be ok.

i have 19" on 235/35 with progress springs 2.5" drop & a body kit and scrape only once under the front lip. both of my wheels tuck under the wheel well and the back is the only thing that rubs when i roll up a driveway. lower you ride. i think it looks lower than it really is.
