Lowering with OEM ride

Hello,

I have a 99 TL that I would like to lower. I want to keep the OEM ride (wife will complain otherwise...) and lowered even to about 1-1.5 finger gap. I guess around the 1.75-2" mark. And keep the budget lean.

I was considering the Tein Basic Coilover but that's still too expensive and with only a 1 year warrantee.

Tokico Blue's sound like they will provide a nice OEM ride but which springs will provide a nice even drop and perform like OEM.

I've got NEX coils on my Honda Accord coupe and they are too stiff. You can slam them, but too stiff for a daily driver. I'm considering Tein SS coils for the Accord when the EDFC version releases...

Thanks in advance for your help!

H&R OE springs if u can find them.

But you will sacrifice some softness no matter what.

lithiumus,

i've got a Comptech drop with OEM shocks. essentially, it's the 'stock ride' with a lower of about 1.5-1.75". of course, the life of the shocks will be shortened, but that's OK with me. since you've got a '99, the shocks are maybe on their way out and that's not an option.

all things considering, you're probably better off with Tein SS -- it's gonna cost you labor to get them installed and buying aftermarket springs / shocks will run you close to the cost of coilovers.

you can pick up the Tein SS on this site or there's Arnold over at Acura-CL.com (handle blxmjx or something) and he's out in Cali and can get you a great price.

hope that helps.

thanks for the help Derrick. You're right. I think my shocks are on the way out. I might as well get the Tein SS or basic.

I'll check with Arnold as well. Thanks.

Go for the SS kit. You can adjust the dampening to your liking. On the softest setting, it's nearly OEM ride.

The H&R Sports springs should give you the lowering you need. I got Tokico HP Blue shocks, and they match well with my H&R Race springs...should be a great match up with H&R Sports.

Thanks Patrick, going the Spring Strut route will probably save me $300 over getting the Tein Basic and more over the SS.

How is your ride? OEM like?

before getting the springs, take a look at pictures of other users rides with the same set up. Once you get those springs on they arent adjustable like coilovers. I'm sur eyou knew that, but make sure the drop is exactly what u want cuz theres no changin the hight once its on

Because my springs are Race Springs, the ride is more harsh than regular Sport springs. Your ride should be near OEM (I would say around 80-90%) with the H&R Sports.

I just received the Tein SS and EDFC from Arnold (blxmjx) from Acura CL.com for my 2002 TL-S. Reasonable price, great service, and not too hard to install, if you follow instructions on this site. That should save you some $. I replaced the H&R OE's and, the ride is now BETTER with the Tein's (on settings from about 8-16). Don't ask me why, but everyone who has ridden in my car agrees the ride is more comfortable. Maybe I had the OE's installed improperly, but I don't think so. I can definitely recommend the Teins. They are worth it and, for my car at least, a better ride.
