Lower Ball Joints

Hey guys, I need to replace both my front lower ball joints. Got a few Q's:

1) I read from the 3G side, the sleeve in the LCA can come out when removing the LBJ from the LCA. If this happens, you must replace the entire LCA =[. Is this issue present on the 2G TL too?

2) I also read from the 3G side, the nut is too small to cover the sleeve inside the LCA completely. This causes the sleeve to just pop out of the LCA. Again, is this an issue for the 2G part?

3) What is the part number for the ball joint that you recommend?

For starters, you have a 2g. quit reading the 3g stuff

Im not sure what they are talking about, but there is no sleeve on the 2g.

That's awesome, less worries for me.

I know you had to replace your LBJ once, but said that they only sold it with the knuckle. After that, I think they released a kit for just the LBJ. I couldn't find it on any website diagrams, do you know where I could find it? Or should I just get Moog ones?

Are the moog better or longer lasting than the OEM ones?
I am thinking of doing mine as well.

The attached file shows a Service Bulletin from June 06 that is in regards to Lower Ball Joints. However, it is old and I don't know if it is relevent these days with all the aftermarket LBJ's available for 2G TL/CL's.

lower BJ

Yeah, the Moog's are top quality and have grease fittings to boot. I'd replaced both sides @ 105k and now have 160k, three years later with no problems !

Is everyone getting just the regular one or the one where you can adjust it?

+1 on moog. Running MOOG LBJ, links, and tie rods. All better than oem IMO along with ingall camBer kits.

Moog ftw

That is a problem ONLY with the moog ball joint, and its easily solved by adding a slightly bigger washer or a bigger nut. https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?p=12706350

Anybody else with our 2nd Gens experience this problem with the Moog replacement BJ ???

The reason that I ask...is that Moog BJ's were used on my 2000 TL and I don't recall any problems with installation or "popping" out. It's been 2 years and 15k since replacing originals...!

^Yea, I only made the thread because I was worried about that problem.

Since the 2G cars don't have that poorly designed sleeve that pops out, the Moog part works well for us.
