Low/rough idle

Hi all! I bought my 99 TL last week and now have about 300 miles on it. Cool car. I was on a work trip friday, was on the highway for about 50 miles. Parked, went out about 1.5 hours later and had a very low/weak idle.... put it into gear real quick and it stalled. Took two times to get it started after that.

Today drove around all day. Went to the machine shop to pick up a set of Big block heads for a project im working on, when I went out, very low idle....didnt stall but way low and rough.

Does this sound like a symptom of needing plugs in one of these?

Car has 93500 miles.

Before I start chasing this, wanted to see if anyone has anyone has had this pinpointed before I dig.

Thanks!

The '99 models had problems with their EGR passageway to the valve getting clogged. This will cause poor running. Check out the "DIY" sticky for the cleaning procedure of the EGR system, TB intake and IAC valve. This stuff gets gunked up and needs to be cleaned for better performance.

At the present age and mileage, the car's T-belt service is due if it has not been performed by the previous owner. Normally, the plugs (NGK), filters, pcv valve, and valve adjustment is also done at this time. May want to also have all of the fluids drained and replenished with new. Would'nt hurt to have the electrical system load tested and check the grounds.

After 100,000 miles on your car it`s up to you to keep up the maintenance of your TL to maximize performance.

Check everything:
~brake fluid
~cabin filter
~air filter/cabin filter
~battery
~spark plugs
~motor mounts (there are five of them 2 tranny 3 engine
~all fluids radiator, brake etc.

As far as rough idle is concerned the weather change could also cause changes in your car moisture build up stuff getting cold etc.

Do the simple fix first. start with 1 can of seafoam in the gas tank and 1/2 can in the crank case before an oil change.

Then clean the egr ports and the valve. Get some brake cleaner and go clean on it, depending on how gunked up it is it might get messy.

Fixed it I believe (hasn't happened again)

New NGK plugs
New air filter
New battery

Everything had 93k on it. Plugs didn't look horrible but they were not 100% for sure. Air filter looked like a black brick..Ok not that bad it it was filthy.

When I would have the issue, it was when the car sat for only a little bit so motor was hot. And my defrost was on when I shut the car off. So when I fired the car up, the combo of the fans kicking on, a weak battery put strain on the alt which made it run a tad lower. Add oe plugs and a crappy air filter.... That's what I got.

Seems all good now! I also have about 30 gallons of 100 octane zero ethanol fuel left over from my boat. I have been running it in one of my big block cars but since winter is here, I filled my car up with it. Seems to REALLY enjoy the good fuel too.

So I will do the EGR cleaning once things slow down (in the middle of two builds and working 50 hours a week in a cube farm).

Thanks for the replies!

Also at this point, I have saved 500 miles from my Diesel F350 and put them on this car. This car is a saving grace of expensive 20" tires, diesel fuel, and wear and tear on my truck. I am enjoying driving my first acura. The only acura I have driven before this was an Integra Type R. These are nice cars!
