Low Beam Questions
Low Beam Questions
Hello, I've seen all the threads for low beam headlight issues. I took the bumper off and replaced the ballast, igniter, and bulb on the bad side and it still wasn't functioning. I took the car to a cert. Acura service place and they said it was the headlight fuse relay which they replaced. It worked for a couple of hours and finally kind of sizzled and won't come on any longer. My other side now only comes on for a couple of minutes and shuts off. I have to turn off the lights and cut them back on for it to work before it shuts off again.
I got the parts from an ebay store, are they reliable? The dealer says the part was used, the store claims it was new. Is it normal for both inverters to go bad at the same time because it was fine until it went to the shop? I'm in Colorado so maybe all the rain we got managed to get into my headlight's? Any suggestions?
I just spent thousands on the car to get it up to speed and can't even wrap my head around spending an additional $1500 on headlights.
Thanks

Wait what? Why did you spend money on the original ballast?
DUDE! You should use Aftermarket kits when the OEM Ballast go out and retrofit it! It cost around 50 bucks (A good set with Warranty) and the installation is straight over...
Get this:
and 2 of these:
Make some cable wiring and DONE! Aftermarket kit for 50 Bucks!
BUT! You should check out why your fuses are blowing! Even with aftermarket kit if you got something wrong in your electrical system they will also fail!

Yeah, as Skirmich said. Get the newer aftermarket HID kits to replace your original low beams. Could be the wiring connections are corroded or perhaps there's a poor ground causing issues. Check the "DIY"s and other threads again for more info on troubleshooting and replacement.
^^ Remove bumper... Remove headlight = Vuala!
There are 2 bolts on each side of the bumper..
You have to remove all plastic clips from inner front grille holding the grille into the chassis
Remove plastic pins holding the mud guards into the front bumper.
Once the bumper is out there are 2 top bolts holding the headlight and 1/2? on the sides (Thus having to remove bumper).

I just installed a HIDextra 5000K kit that cost $59.00 delivered (with discount code). The kit included everything including all wiring and was plug & play, just splice in 2 wires on each side for the power.

Will this kit require one of those 9006 adapters? i don't see how the ballast can be powered without using the adapter and splicing it into the OEM wires.
Why would we need 9006 adapters if our headlight low beams are D2R's???
And 02-03 headlights have 5 bolts holding the headlight in place. 2 on top, 2 underneath, and 1 where the bumper and fender meet. The 3 bolts underneath and next to the meeting point of the bumper and fender are holding a metal frame, along with the headlights.

Now if the ballast doesn't have the wires and uses a 9006 input u must get the 9006 adapter and splice the end and connect it the end that was cut, correct.
If I'm mistaken please guide me to learn how to power an aftermarket ballast if most are conversion kits . I've not been able to find any type of direct plug. And play type ballasts
Thanks
You are actually correct. Let's say you go to ddmtuning.com like I did.
You enter everything you need. When you put D2R as your bulbs they will provide that adapter but of course costs little extra. The adapter plugs straight into the ballast and is required to be spliced into the OEM wire harness.
