loud humming noise! help me!!!!

Hey guys, i have a 03 TL-S and i had installed an injen short ram air intake and ever since then the car makes a loud humming noise and i have no idea what the problem could be. it never made the noise with the sock intake arm i guess because its resonated? However, i've tried just the intake arm with no filter and its the same thing. One time i tried to clean my air filter with compressed air and as i was blowing out the filter the humming stopped and i just had the hissing thats common for a air intake, i did this while the car was running which i dont know how smart that was but it stopped until i drove the car for a little and it came back. any help would be greatly appreciated!!

All short rams make this noise. Hell even some CAI's do. its just part of modding your car. The stock intake tube has a small resonator box on it that eliminates that noise.

Nothing harmful, just a little annoying.

I promise you, unless it sounds like metal grinding, youre fine. unless you screwed something up and forgot to connect one of the vacuum lines, youre fine.

If its just a humming noise accompanied by the regular sucking sound that the engine makes because it sucks air then its fine.

So once, again, its fine.

If youre really scared though, go back to stock, if the noise goes away then its exactly what ive been saying. If thenoise is still their, then the intake is the least of your worries.

its called frequency resonance of metal tubing in pulse airflow movement

You can put a rubber joint in the system like stock- a plumbers `no hub coupling` at hardware stores works good
or try wrapping something around the tube to quiet it down- reflectex and duct tape- some rubber strip would work too

recheck all the vac lines- easy to miss one and have a bad noise
The PCV tube got hooked back into the inlet pipe to TB?

you didnt hurt anything by shooting air at the intake for a second

that stock resonator box is anything but small!
removing just it,, and running 2 large open holes on the bottem of the airbox is a big increase in inlet air volume-- available on demand

Its normal and part of the reason the TL has resonators. The TLp has 2 resonators, one just to combat the hum

I think it has to do with the size of the tube, thats why you pay $300 for a injen or AEM Cai for our car, they are made to increase HP w/o the hum..
The one u got is prob E-bay off brand just a metal tube with sheap cone filter (prob not even K@N).. I did see a post where they said those short tubes caused a hum cus there legnth..

it was made for an 02 model accord v6 so i had to cut the piping a little shorter to make up for the space the vsa components take up and as for that it fit perfectly

tl-s has a 3" pipe diameter. tl-p and accords have 2.5" i believe.

the humming sound you described is just like the aem v2 cai on my tl.
i was worried too at first...but now know it's normal. if you search "AEM V2 Idle Sound" on youtube there's a good recording of it on someone's s2k.

i was told by another member that the injen cais would not have this idle noise...can anyone else confirm?

Yeah my W/R short ram air intake makes that same humming sound. It got louder when I put my spacer on. It makes a nice sound when you shut the car off tho

When I was pulling up at work the other day some guy asked me if I had a jet engine under my hood Lol!

^ Lol After I get my J-Pro set up...

People that know nothing about modding cars always tell me "that sounds bad, you should get it checked out" Lol

The cops in Concord know what that sound is tho! At a red light I get nothing but dirty looks
