Lost wheel lock =/

ok, dont ask me how. it just happened

acura is quoting me 1 hour of labor to remove them which comes out to about $100

anyone know how much it usually cost elsewhere?

also, is this something we can do ourselves? i can get a hold of a pneumatic chisel, anyone think this might work? or slowly drilling the locks out?

Get a socket that is just a bit too small to fit around the wheel lock right, bash it on with a hammer and turn.

One way to bypass it I have heard. Never tested it, not that I want to anyways.

I just had to do this as well - the key for the factory wheel locks, made by McGard, is made from cast aluminum [genious idea], and its internals sheared off on me while installing my springs. Get yourself a 19 or 20mm 12-point socket and hammer that bitch onto the lock - they will come off....but don't plan on using that socket again b/c the lock will be embedded in it. Good luck.

Talk to your local Acura dealer and tell them you need them to find the right lock key for you. They should have a master set to help when someone brings a car in for service and doesn't have the locks.

Then contact www.mcgard.com to order a new key.

I am of the belief there are only half dozen wheel lock keys, so the dealer does keep a set- just as said above, because customers forget to leave one for service.
They are there to make money- and thats not happening if your car cant be worked on!

Or the air chisel will make short work of that part, just side shear it from the edge down the wheel, then buy a new set of locks.
If the dealer wants an hour and is going to do the same thing, you should be able to do it in less time than that

I finally taped my wheel lock to the cars lug wrench- now I know where its at.

I'd suggest using one of the black impact sockets, they are less likely to crack/break.
You could get the lock out of the socket by holding the socket with a vise and beating it back out with a rod that fits through the socket connection.

You could also super-glue a tight-fitting socket on it; acetone will dissolve it to get them apart once you have it off.

Anythings easier than breaking 4 wheel locks and wasting 4 sockets.
No key- gotta replace them all right?

Last time I lost my wheel lock, my Acura dealer would remove them for free. As a good faith, I decided to buy a new sets of wheel locks for them. So, it cost around $55 for the set and they replaced them for me.

went to Discount Tire Company, they did something to em, hammered something over the wheel locks and took em out...5 bucks per lock = 20$

Acura = 100- Discount Tire 20 = 80 Dollars Savings.
