Unhappy Lost excitement for the TL??

I've had the car for only 6 months. For some reason, over the past month, I have felt my excitement for my car just bottom out. I'm afraid that 6 months from now, I'll be really bored with it.

It is a great car, don't get me wrong. But I feel like I should have maybe gotten something else sometimes. I see it as just a way to get around more than a car that I'm really excited about.

I know alot of it is a result of my feelings about the 02 coming out so damn soon with all the features that should have been in the 01.

Modding will probably help some. But with the way I'm feeling, I don't want to put any money into mods at the moment. I feel like I would be putting money into something I don't wanna keep.

I think it may be time for a road trip.

Any of you feel like this?

Mods? What mods? I can't afford mods, I'm getting married!!
Vin says 2001, but it's really a 2000 with an upgraded cupholder!!

Take your car in for service, and let them give you a rental. (prolly a sunfire or a cavalier) then you'll have renewed appreciation for the TL

I feel this sometimes with my car, but everytime I do something to it, it gets me all excited again. Case in point, I added clear bumpers a few months ago, and ever since then, I've been all into my car, washing and waxing it every weekend (weather permitting), etc. You may want to look into doing a small mod on your car. It should restore some excitement....even if it's only for a little while.

I experience this from time to time myself. I've had my car 4 months. I want a sport ute
but without the big payment. The GMC Envoy is currently on my mind but I hate the gas mileage of the SUV. I like the Explorer but every1 I know who has owned one said don't do it. Acura dealer here laugh when you mention negotiating on msrp on the MDX

Granted the 99-01 TL is not the most exciting car in stock form, if you mod it you may find a new appreciation for the car. But think about what's out there, if you're looking in the same price point there isn't a heck of a lot out there! A run-of-the-mill 320i, IS300 (slightly more money), and C240? If I didn't have the TL right now I'd be driving a WRX,ITR or S2000, maybe as my second car later.

I look forward to driving my TL every chance I get. I like it better than my wife's MDX. I really think you should do some mods to it, make it stand out a little. I bet you after that, you will enjoy driving your TL as much as I enjoy mine.

i agree with shoof...
like i said b4 to gomez's post
keep buying, trading, etc of any of your carz and youll find yourself not appreciating any of the cars characteristic.
youll personally get attached to the car just stick with it and do a mod once a month, little by little youll find what you were looking for from the start, a good rolling hunk of metal

p.s. we are not lil babies anymore wanting a new toys every other day

Yeah, I am like that with cars. That is why I do my mods early so I can get my moneys worth. I usually like to turn cars every 1 to 2 years. I guess I would be an ideal short term leasing candidate

Cars are like the carriage in Cinderella. After a while, psychologically, they all turn back into pumpkins. I had a M-B C36 I leased for four years. Year 1 was true love. Year 2 it was a cool car. Year 3 it was just a car. Year 4 it was a big monthly payment. I leased my TL-S for thirty-months as part of a new strategy to only keep a car during it's "carriage" phase. Acura's hold their value well so it's not all that expensive.

After driving the Sebring rental for 2 weeks, I can't wait to get back into my TL!!!

But I totally understand how you feel about it. Maybe you should get some new mods? The TL give me what I want from a daily driver. Well, maybe with some mods... I know that it will never be like a Bimmer 330, but good enough for me. For the track events, I will have my track car soon.

I bought mine 2 years ago and I wasn't bored, but I wanted a change. Did some research on trading in and then said screw it. Once I put my springs and sways on, the car was rejuvenated. Everything snowballed, and now I love it more than the day I bought it. A Mod a month helps keep that spark.

I still got my CAI to put in, rims and tires, clear corners, and spark plugs. That'll keep me looking forward to driving her.

We all strive to have a fast, smooth, comfortable car... then we find out that we miss those cars with rough edges, light weight, and give lots of feedback. I'll keep the comfy leather in my living room.

I hear you on this one. I keep going in and out of interest for my 99TL, but maybe it's time for something new. TL Type S is a great choice, but it still looks very similar to my 99TL.

BMW 5 series will hold me off for longer I think. It is time.

Once again, let the flaming begin.

We need a background lesson in human mentality. humans are INSATIABLE. that means that no matter what you have, you will always want more. even if it was a 360 modena, than maybe a mclaren. the point being, we need to find an equilibrium not just make small patch fixes to put off the inevitable. i have an 87 accord with the paint peeling from the top. I keep the TL sparkling so I'm jealous of myself just by looking at it. so I drive one car, miss this and that from the TL and then love my 99 nav. I plan on balancing the force out by getting a s2k. So when i miss the room and comfort of the TL, than. And when the TL feels bulky and sluggish, than...

I can tell you from experience that getting an S2000 definitely HELPS make me appreciate my TL more...and vice versa.
I have had my 99 TL since 10/98, and I started to get a bit bored about 1 year in. I lowered it around then and again i was jazzed. A few months later, I got the Inspore Tails, and immediatley my car looked different than the others. I was extremely happy with that. I got the rims and tires late last year, and then the drilled brake rotors and pads about the same time. As it is right now, I am SO happy with it because 1) I have personalized it to my taste, and 2) it performs and drives so much better than it ever did stock, and finally 3) I enjoyed customizing it myself.
Compared to other cars in its class, I still see my car as at least their equal and I've had the opportunity to drive and enjoy it already for so long.

As for the comparason to the S2000? They are so two totally different cars that miraculously love driving each for their strentghs instead of dwelling on why the TL has a roof, or cannot stop on a dime, or why the S2000 can fit so little and attracts tickets like a fly to shit.

Do a few mods here and there that suit your taste and you'll rejuvenate that love for the car. we will never truly be happy b/c we keep comparing and new stuff keeps coming out but make the best of it. Sorry so long. Peace.

I've never had any excitement for my TL from the begining. It's not a car to get excited over. It's a sedan... there is nothing exciting about it. (IMHO) My ideal car is fast, quick, agile and compact.

I bought my TL because I needed a four door sedan that was reasonably priced for its class. I couldn't just get an Accord or Camry (because I'm vain). If I had it my way, I'd be driving a two door sports coupe. (I was actually planning on buying the 330ci) This car was basically a compromise for me. Don't get me wrong... it's a great car and I like it. But I am not sure if I love it.

I feel excited every time I put a new mod on my car though. That's how I deal with the pain. And that is why I mod my ride slowly (but surely). BTW, THAT's how Snook makes money off of the members. j/k.

Unlike some of other members, I can't afford to own a second leisure car.... if I could, my problem would be solved.

The beauty of owning a non-fun 91 toyota camry is that it makes my 00TL feels new and exciting to drive.

Cool

Getting bored with things are normal. I had a 98 Accord EX v6 for exactly 11 months and 25 days. I hated that thing. I was complaining how much I hated that car almost everyday. I tested my TL when I was accompanying a friend who was looking for a Zanardi NSX back in 1999. I have had my TL ever since. I have not sold it yet. I do get bored with it every once in a while but then you go look at other cars and see what a deal the TL is. A BMW 330i with comparable features is like 45k. Dude that a lot of money. Start making mods. I have 02 tails and just got my Comptech exhaust put on Tuesday. Looking forward to get my new Hokuto 824 Turugi 17x7 on this week. I still love my car. Start indulging yourself with changes to your car.

I can help you with places to modify your car in the bay area...

It's normal - it human nature to get bored. Why do you think the extremely rich have collections of exotic cars.

Best advice: Do some mods - go small(cheap) if your avoiding putting allot of $ into the car.

Also, absence makes the heart grow fonder - get a rental for a week or switch cars with someone you trust - whatever you do don't upgrade to something much better(NSX ,etc.) After a week you'll miss your baby.

I switch between my wifes 4runner and my TL - its a great combination. Driving one makes me appreciate what the other offers. Now - if I can only get my wife to understand this same logic also applies to woman!

aehaheaeh i don't know what to say, as i do feel the same way as you from time to time after owning the car for only 3 months! But my video installation has kept me awake driving! Mods are great and i think modding the interior is just as important as the exterior since you are IN the car driving it 95% of the time!

As for speed, i think it has plenty even for stock compare to tons of other cars in the market. As people have pointed out, we should compromise and balance our life styles. I mean there are other things in life besides our car. Your family, friends, house and just don't be too obsessed otherwise you'll go nutz. Its funny how i think this forum has brainwashed us. Before i found out about this forum, i have ZERO complaints about the TL. I bought the TL because it was fully loaded. Now it seems like it came in stock! LOL

Basically, we should be happy with what we have. There are alot of less fortunate ones out there that would love to be in our shoes. If you got the dough, wait for the stick to come out. I've always wanted to learn how to drive one but living in NYC, i think its a royal pain in the ...
