Talking Long trip in TL

Just got back from a long trip in my TL. Drove around 25 hrs (round trip) for an interview (school). Awesome ride...Thank God no tranny problem as it was haunting me during the trip. I'm still kicking on the first tranny and waiting for it to take a crap so I can have it replaced with a redesigned one (if there is a redesigned one)....21K miles so far..

Was it really OK? I'm moving from Atlanta to Sacramento, CA next year (2600 miles) and I plan on still havin the TL. That should be quite a long trip!

Like I said before, our cars were meant for long trips. I have taken numerous long trips (NJ to FL, Canada, Connecticut, etc...of course not at the same time) and the ride is so comfortable. Take one and you'll understand.

I have taken plenty of long trips in the TL and I agree with the TL being an amazing car to take a long road trip with. I went from NY->Delaware->Ann Arbor in two days, and I had five people in the car, plus luggage and the TL handled great! It was so smooth cruising at 80 mph I was amazed. The engine doesn't struggle like most other cars to keep that constant speed. The car was asking for more...

Yeah, TL is a great car. I drove from Renton, Washington to San Diego, California and it was fine. No problems at all. Just make sure you change your oil and check your tires before you start the trip.
It was raining like heck in Oregon and the trip was mostly down hill but the car handled turns and curves really well in the rainny cond.. It was a sweet trip but a little tiring from driving. It took me about 19 hours.

The only thing that bothers me about the TL is the headrests... in my old infiniti, they would push forward so I could rest my head on it while driving... still having my head in a very upright position. Now I have to basically lay my head down, and I cant see the road very well.... very bothersome. Other than that, I can see how the TL would make for a great car on a road trip. Although I'm seriously considering trading it in for an MDX for the trip, and so I can go off road a ways in CA.

just got back from a phoenix to LA trip this weekend. 5 and a half hours of pure joy each way in my 01 TL - 90mph the entire time and it was just great....the roads in this part of the country are great...no cold weather. hr & oe springs performed so well, konig glidge 17x7's were turning some heads....

TL's are soooo quiet on the highway! especially blacktop asphalt.

why are so many worried about their tranny's??? what is it? 1% of reported problems? I have 65K on my car and have never worried about it. you can't spend your life worrying about these things......enjoy the road.

Yes the TL is a great road warrior car!! I love to cruise with the moonroof open and the heated seat turned on. When I bought my car in cali I drove it from LA to Phoenix and it was delightfull! I gained a lot of respect for the car on that trip. It seems like doing 95 MPH doesn't even strain the engine a bit!

I just got back from Phoenix and man, it's a joy to drive long distance! I love taking my TL-S on long trips. The ride is smooth and a few times I was breaking 100+ and didn't realize it till I looked down at the speedo! :wow:

Even with the tranny issues, I still love the car!

PS. Didn't see that many TL's or TL-S's in Phoenix. . . Are they popular in AZ?

There are surprisingly many TL's out here, just very few modified. In fact, I've seen once local one modified quite nicely, the rest, normally are out of town.

Most of the TL drivers here are older folks but hey they made a great choice in choosing a great car!

Does anyone know if there have been any meets in the Phoenix area? There's a meeting place in Scottsdale were many get to together and show off all kinds of cars in a parking log at Indian Bend and the 101 (east side of the city) every couple of weeks....just didn't know if there was anything specific to TLs.

Halfids,
There have been only one or two meets here in phoenix that I know of. I have unfortunatly not been to any of them... Maybe we can organize one sometime and even get some CL guys from acura-CL to come!!

What do you think? Maybe near the end of the month or early march?

Yeah I see a lot of older women driving a TL's and sometimes middle aged guys. One TL had two middle aged guys driving and I was right next to them in first and floored it! WOOOOT my intake was screaming then I slowed down and smiled at them and they were like WTF?!? starring in disbelief... They probably didn't know you could even do anything to the car.
