Loaners?

When is the dealership required to give us loaners? For just warranty work? How about scheduled maintenances? Does it vary on the dealership?

Definitely varies by dealership. They are not *required* to give you any loner ever. Of course with Acura being Honda's upscale division, most of the dealerships do it as a courtesy (and to stay competitive with the other luxury brands). The key is to make an appointment well in advance so you can be sure a loaner will be available for you (assuming the dealer has a fleet of loaners and doesn't just use a rental place). I've had my car in for warranty service three times and every time I got a loaner, but I made all appointments a week in advance and specifically asked for a loaner. I got a 2000 Integra LS twice, and when my tranny was replaced I got a 2002 TL-P for five days.

Just as Pianoman said, most Acura dealers will give you a free courtesy loaner. I've had my '98 3.2TL serviced numerous times without an appointment and everytime I've gotten either an Integra, RSX, or CL as a loaner. Last time I did ask for an RL but the only 2 that the dealer had were already out. Next time, I have to remember to make an appointment and reserve it!

I made an appointment well in advance for my 30k tune-up. Courtesy Acura asked me what Acura loaner car I wanted. I asked for the rsx because I never drove one before. I asked for a manual version but that wasn't an option. Overall the car handles pretty good, but the 160 hp engine just didn't do much for me. I'm used to 260hp with plenty of torque. It would've been nice to get the rsx type s.

When my tranny broke a year ago, they gave me a new tl-s as a loaner. It was fun redlinning the car and taking it to the limits. It was kinda disappointing though because the crappy michelin tires wouldn't allow me to test the limits of the car. Slipping and sliding...... hehehe.

Open Road Acura, in Jersey provides me with a loaner whenever I bring my car in. No matter what it is for. They also wash it no matter what I bring it in for. My friend works as a service writer, so I get RL's when I go
