When someone claims that they have a K&N filter, is this considered a mod or is it simply a different type of oil filter?
If this is only an oil filter, what's the advantage or disadvantage to using this over the stock parts? I have 17100 km on my car, so I'm soon too reach my 18000 km mark where I need to have my oil changed. I have a guy who is awesome with Honda's and Acura's, but I want a recommendation about what oil to use, and what filter to put.
Thanks guys.

It's an air filter, not an oil filter. I'd consider anything that helps your car's performance a mod. K&N air filters are very safe for your car and improve gas mileage and top end performance. I've installed one on every car I've ever owned.
Jeff, as soon as I put my K&N filter, my top end was much better and the car felt like it was breathing even better. K&N filters are known for adding 3 to 5 hp just by installing them and also helping on the mpg, and mine did help about 2mpg.
Something to consider if you don't have the CT intake.

Its as simple as replacing the air filter. Just pop open the air box, pull out the stock air filter, put the K&N in, and close it back up.
K&Ns run about $45, but they last the life of the car and don't need replacing (just re-oiled every 50k miles or so).
Look up the correct part number on knfilers.com. If I am not mistaken, the TL-P and TL-S filters are different. I had my local AutoZone order one for me and it was here in a few days. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll have it on the shelf. Otherwise order it online.

This is the cheapest site I found for K&N stock filter replacement.

I highly recommend K&N because AEM and other aftermarket intake uses their cone filter, so you know its quality.
