Lexus envy? Going from superwhite fogs to lexus gold! PICS on page 1 & 3

OK...so after about a year, one of my 80W Eaglite fogs finally blew out and I went ahead and double checked the wiring harness (everything still checks out OK!). This time around, I decided to try something different and got GOLD bulbs instead. I figure since the OEM HID lights were good enough, I should just get gold colored bulbs since it would be easier for the people in front of me to identify my car when I'm following them around.

P.S.
I never posted pics before because I couldnt...but now I think I'm ready to share

click here to view my full album...thx copland007!

Taken from the top of the moon roof. The light difference is VERY obvious in person.

Well I've been a fan of this site (showparts.com) ever since Road Rage recommended the bulbs last year. These are the bulbs that you see in the pics...

Eaglite 9005 100w for the highbeams

Eaglite 9006 80w for the OEM fogs (old).
MAX 9006 55w Gold (new)

Eaglite 1157 27/8w for the turn signal lights

Read the description here...

To me the hids look less like hids when the fogs closely match them. i liek the gold as well.

Those fogs are real nice. I just made the plunge and got a pair for my baby. Damn, this site is evil! I just told myself that I would not spend anymore money on mods too. Oh well, this will be the last thing...I promise! =)

Looks good, I have the yellow film....so if you people don't like the yellow film idea, you can't go wrong with these. Why I won't change to these and take the film off?? Well since I have an extra pair of my old stock hid bulbs I was thinking of changing the fogs to HIDs and see what it will look like with the yellow film.

I can't. My work requires me to sit in front of the computer for most of the day. My only relieve is to surf once a while. What did you do today? Got yourself a 3.5L upgrade?

I'm unfortunetly not a TLS owner, just an enthusiast....I drive my parents 93 legend adn RL from time to time. I have an Audi A4 1.8 and I just bought a dual ball bearing turbo kit for my car. I wish I could have a 3.5 liter engine to go along with it :>)

Nope...no bumper removal from me. I basically unclipped 2 plastic tabs on the bottom, then snaked my hand inside the bumper from underneath. The REAL way is to take the foglight hosing out...but I could never find the screws with my front lip covering it and all.

As for a Xmas gift. Who ever is getting you that is pretty lucky...since they'll only be spending less than $25 on ya.

Everyone is so quick on the trigger these days. Let me remind you that these are just bulbs for god sakes. One of them blew out and I happen to want to try something different. Besides...you really only have 2 choices to keep it legal...anywhere in the vicinity between white or yellow. But the last time I checked...Lexus never had a patent for color. So I really don't know what you'd be yapping about...other than perhaps my provocative subject title. :thefinger

Just because somebody wants to use yellow fog lights doesn't necessarily means they want to "copy" Lexus. It's all about being different and trying something new man. Besides, this is not an expensive mod anyway. I'm with ya edgalang. Most importantly, this ain't rice.

Um last I checked Lexus didnt invent the yellow lights; didnt cars years ago have them as part of, or right next to their headlight clusterss? Also real fog lights years ago only came in yellow, so no ones reinventing the wheel here.

BTW, are these bulb #s the same for a 99 TL?

If I get the value bumper, is the # the same also for the fogs?

AS LONG AS YOU USE THE SAME FOG LIGHT HOUSING IT SHOULD BE THE SAME.

just bought myself a pair...wanting the lexus yellow fogs look for a long time and i think this is pretty close.

just one question, how hard is the install?? any FAQs or guides on changing fog light bulbs??

or would i have to bring it to a shop and do it there professionally?

oh btw edgalang, is that "blue look" from the high beams Eaglite 9005 100w bulbs?? or did u put some blue film in the reflector??
i really like the look.

hmmmm, using the "Lexus" setup is basically in referenece to what edgalang is trying to explain....not trying to "be like" Lexus....eh, no matter.

Nice bulbs edgalang, I had the PIAA's Yellow Ion's ??? in my fogs which were a bit odd. They emitted a nice yellow light but unless you were looking directly in the lights beam/projection(low down where the fogs focused too), it looked.....white...blue and sometimes a bit of purple....so it wasn't the best candidate for what you accomplished with those bulbs. I believe Auto Barn carried a 9006 yellow bulb also.

Too bad I wasted my money on making lows & fogs 6000K.....but then again I'll never go back now(spoiled by lumens).....wouldn't ya agree Sandeep?

gohan.....or rice in english, all you need is a 10MM socket, an extension and a ratchet and less then 10 minutes. Try searching it, I remember allot of posts on it with some of them having pics as well

haha yah...lexus's yellow fogs are not "the best look"...its all personal preference...so u can't say that ppl are just trying to look cool by "coping lexus"...like i personally dont like the yellow fogs in my new car...and i actually spent money to buy clear housings...
for my hids...

The "blue look" is nothing more than the reflection of the bulbs inside. Nothing fancy...just plug and play. I honestly didn't think they'd be that blue...all I wanted was brighter highbeams and nothing more.

As for installation of the fogs...all you need is a flat head screw driver. Pull out 2 tabs that hold the bottom plastic shied together...pry that sucker open...then snake your hand from underneath the car...unplug the harness...then unscrew the bulb. Then repeat in the reverse order and your set.

TUFF GONG: I first tried that method when I first decided to change my bulbs last year but couldnt find the bolt. Isn't it covered if you have the front lip?

As for the difference between all the bulbs types...I found this question in a FAQ located in the site I bought these bulbs from.

Q – How are these different than ION bulbs or Plasma Bulbs?

A – The first bulbs that were available were the ions. These came in blue and gold. The gold bulbs looked yellow and cast a purple hue; the blue bulbs had a blue-ish light and cast a rainbow effect. The next bulbs to become available were Plasma bulbs. These were slightly blue and projected a white light with very little coloration up close. The latest bulbs available, the Xenon Superwhites, have a very white light with a slight blue tint up close. They are the closest thing available to true HID lighting systems without spending the exorbitant amount of money HID systems cost.

Edgalang, there is a round hole directly aligned with the bolt. It's a bit difficult to do without having the car jacked up so you have a direct "worms eye" view of the bolt......at least the 1st time. It doesn't get covered up by the spoiler either.

The bulbs I'm talking about were the non-USA market PIAA Plasma Yellow Ion's, not the bulbs on showparts.

Here's a link to a thread I did about it.....almost a year ago......life just zooms right by huh?

http://www.acura-tl.com/forum/showth...ht=yellow+piaa

BTW, the PIAA Yellow Ions were great in the rain......the 6000k's don't do much at all in the rain compared to them.

Definitely!!!!!!

Two sets of HIDs lighting the way, can it get any better?? The only down side is borrowing someone elses car at night with halogens; it feels like I have sunglasses on.
