Lexus 2001 IS300 or 2000 TL?

Ok, I'm between the IS300 and the TL mainly because I don't want to have transmission issues with the TL. Otherwise, I think the TL is a better deal (everything is standard except navi). The IS costs a little bit more, but not that much and doesn't come with as many standard features. What do you guys think I should do?

That's easy! Get the TL ASAP. You would be very unhappy with an IS. Way too small and can't compete with a TL in any way!

We have both of them, sorta. I have '02 TL-S and wife has the '01 IS300. They're different car. TL is great for long crusies and got way more power. IS300 is much more nimble and the suspension is much tighter. TL is a much better ride. IS300 is kinda tight and less gadgets, at least for '01

IS300 is not very cheap to maintain. 6qts of oil and filter is a pain to get out. There's also a differential that you got to deal with. Lots of aftermarket enhancement, though, intake, header, exhaust, and ever stage II turbo. Genuine parts are hard to find. Their repair manual sucks, less detail.

I like the Acura better. We use the IS300 as the commuter. Much better weaving through traffic. The TL does the weekend long haul. All in all, we put about the same mileage on both cars.

Good luck

IMHO without a doubt it's all about the IS300 with it's between the 2000TL. My friend has it and let have a test drive with it. But like everyone says it's all about preference to what you like. IS300 has a Supra motor and believe me you can tune the car and overkill the TL-S. Friend of mine has a 5spd Turbocharged IS300

We have both in the family. The IS300 is way too small for big drivers. The TL is more comfortable for longer drives and costs less in maintenance costs. I wouldn’t worry about the transmission. Only a small percentage of the TL have defective ones. The rest of the car makes up for it.

if you want something to toss around in, the IS300 because it's smaller and is more fun to drive. if you have a family and need the space or want the comfort, get the TL. I personally think they are two different cars and are targeted for 2 different reasons. It all depends on what your going to use it for.

2001 IS300 vs 2000 TLP?

I'd get the IS300 if I were you. Seeing as you are only 21, you'll have plenty of time down the road to purchase a sedan for the "family". But since you are still young, enjoy the smaller more nible car for now.

EDIT:
BTW...why are you comparing those 2 cars? They're not even in the same price category. If you would of mentioned a 2002+ TLS then maybe it would be different...but a 2000 TLP? Does it even have a Navi? If not, then the IS300 wins by far.

Keep in mind, a 2000 TLP is a 5 year old car since it came out in 1999. Whereas the 2001 IS300 might have some factory warranty left. Great when buying used since you can immediately go to the dealer to have a few items taken cared of.

I agree get the IS300. Much better looking and sportier car, IMHO. I had a 2000 TLP and traded it in for a 2002 TLS. Never really cared for the TLP too much.

IS300.

The TL-P is nice, but the IS300 is more of a driver's car, at least stock. The choice between an IS and a TL-S is more difficult. The IS is smaller, gets relatively bad fuel economy (for a small car) and has a small trunk and back seat, yet still looks good, handles like a go-kart, is decently quick, and has great quality cause it's a Toyota.

I chose the TL-S, but I probably wouldn't have regretted getting an IS instead of the TL-S.

How did you never really care for the TL-P? Both TL-P and TL-S are basically the same car. They have the same interior, very similar exterior, some performance enhancements on the TL-S.
