So you have to take off the bumper to remove the fog lamps? I was hoping that wasn't the case. I need to do this to mine too since there's a hole in both and I'm sure the chrome is corroded. Thanks for the nice write up.

No, there is a 10mm bolt that hold it in place, you can access the bolt from under the car, right behind the front bumper...

Ok, that makes me feel a little better LOL. If I had to take off the bumper I might as well do the painted headlights mod at that point.

Not exactly. Taking out the headlights is very easy. 10+ clips and a couple of screws and it's out. Painting your headlight housing is another story.

I was thinkin' that you had to take the bumper off to get the headlights. I've done this mod before on my civic and from what I remember I did have to do this to reach one of the bolts that hold the headlight.

Here's a pic while I'm at it.

most headlights have bolts on the top of the light that you can take out but also bolts on the bottom. i took off my bumper bc i was fixing my grill, and it make easier putting the fog lights back in

props + shameless self-promo.

rajca, fantastic DIY, I wish I would have remembered it when I decided to do mine.
I could have avoided a few mistakes. The result is well worth it for whoever decides to undertake this project.

Result.

Does this reduce the visibility with the fogs?

My fog light glass was shattered by a rock so I need to do this. However I plan on putting in a Kaixen HID kit for my fog lamps. Does anyone know the operating temperature of the HID bulbs? I don't want to go through this work to have it melt on me.

5000k HID fogs with Home Depot Lexan cut by yours truly and no problems whatsoever. Don't worry about it melting...

I'm about to do this mod next week...I have a couple questions:

1) Do you put the fog light on a wet towel in the oven?

2) What does that glare shield do?

3) What is the best paint to replicate that chrome look...I don't want to lose light output.

Just put it on a try in the oven just like you would do headlights.

The glare shield I'm guessing reduces glare.

Try metallic silver paint but I also believe that Autozone or Advance sells a chrome paint IIRC.

When I did mine, it was cracked....I didnt even bake it. Since the glass was broken I just carefully smashed the rest out over a garbage can.

Baking it won't do u any good. I've tried it. Nothing happened. Check out my diy on how to do it. U have to crack the class and then rough up the chrome or completely remove the chrome paint (or what ever it is). get some chrome paint and repaint them. Glare shield provides more out put on the ground (if adjusted)

It softens up the glue a bit but u still have to break the glass. So break the glass then with a scraper scrape off the old glue.

Exactly...I broke the glass, and then used a heatgun and common screwdriver to get the glue out of the groove.

Judging by your signature, your opinion is irrelevant. That was almost the gayest thing I've ever read... until I looked at your avatar picture and realized you weren't kidding around.

To the OP, thanks for the DIY. I'll be trying this myself in a few days.

Just got around to doing this today. Came out great...can't wait to get some nice yellow Fog lights in there now. I wasn't satisfied in how i cut the Lexan though, it came up a little short which ended up needing more silicone and a little messy. It's only noticeable up close though.

I did this last week. I painted the inside and trim black with a soft gloss. They came out great! It was hard to cut the lexan cuz I only had a dremel cutting tool but the out come was worth the time spent.

The light output is bad but I also wet sanded the headlights so that helped.

Thanks guys for the great info!!

Hey so im reading this thread and im noticing that you guys have great fogs and hid fogs. I have a 2nd gen CL and im looking to throw some hids in my road lamp housings. Could anyone one here help me out a bit on what king of hid bulb would fit in the housing and how i would be able to turn on/off since my 01 CL doesn't have a fog light on/off switch inside?

Can anybody tell me how to remove the reflector from the housing? I tried to remove the adjustment screw in the fog lights but I could not get it off.

There is just 1 single 10mm bolt holding the Housing (Its beneath the Housing itself) into the Bumper once you get that Off then Push the Housing from behing the bumper OUT!
Once you got the Bolt out the Entire housing Is just holded by a Plastic Hinge that needs a little pressure to let go..
