I've seen a thin strip that you attach to the outside of the mirror but I did not like it that much.

i'm sure they look good at night and all, but if the LED's stick out off the mirror too much that might not look too good during the day. The factory ones that i see on trucks are actually built into the mirror and are flush with it. I don't know how difficult it is to run the wire either. It looks cool though, if you would like to experiment.
