Hey, second genners! I come to you from the 3rd gen arena and have a relatively slow modding schedule coming this winter, so I was wondering if there is any interest in FULL LED tails, for both brake AND turn signals. I have done designs for the 5th gen maxima, and unlike some other attempts, I don't use PCB - I will be fully etching a custom board specific to the 2nd Gen TL that follows the full curvature of the lens.

I am going to start order supplies tomorrow, but I'd like to get a few ideas as follows:

(1) What kind of array would you be looking for? Keep in mind, since the board is etched from scratch, ANYTHING is possible.

(2) What kind of price would you consider to be fair for the boards alone? For full retrofit?*

*MODS: This is just a feeler thread, I will route any GB possibility through Astro, of course

What do you mean, you don't use pcb? That's a printed circuit board in the pics-

i dont see customers comfortably throwing out prices they would be willing to pay. its usually the other way, you compile a list, and factor in labor, and do a feeler thread with price included..

Agreed, but this is just testing the waters for prospective price points. The total number of LEDs and complexity of the array would partially drive design as it's simply not going to be cost effective to make a 200-LED panel that people are only willing to pay $150 for.

I am going to proceed with the design starting this evening and begin ordering materials. If not many, at least ONE person is getting tails out of this.

i mess around a few year ago an did LED on my OEM taillight (orange/red)

Our bottom led look the same.

But after you put it back together
The problem is the red lens have line that are shadow into the lens. You have to sand an buff it out an that was alot work an not easy.
I try 2 or 3 different ways to cover them line up with no success. That only reason why i never finish it

How much work would installation be? I'm not really comfortable with a difficult install, mostly because I know I'll mess it up the first time.

After you design the mod, are you going to sell the tails complete or just the equipment? Would you install if people sent you tails?

(1) Taillight exchange wherein I send you a 'loaner' set and perform the mod
(2) Boards alone
