WeatherTech
Weathertech mats are great and the laser cut ones fit well too.
Who are we to tell you what mats to use when?

Regarding your question -- I have used weathertech mats in 2 vehicles and consider them top notch products.
Typically, I only use them (weathertech liners) in the winter months.

Welcome! I've used both and I strongly endorse WeatherTech products. I use them year round, the carpet floor mats are in the attic and will go back in when I trade/sell the car.

This has several advantages. Any rain can create a puddle on your carpeted mats that can soak through so I think they are actually useful all year round. Second, I think that having new carpeted mats with the car when you sell it will increase the value of the car. Why? Your pristine ne mats, combined with the thorough cleaning and detailing you give the car, will make the interior look new and will make any wear on the carpet below the mats disappear.
The outboard anchor point is the lowest point of the liner. Water pools there and has a tendency to spill over into the anchor opening and soak the carpet. Something to watch for.
I would go for front, rear, and cargo area mats if you use the "U" in CUV. I even purchase a 6X8 tarp that folds flat under the rear cargo mat for when I need to put the rear seats down and I don't want to get the back of the seats dirty (Home depot runs in spring).
I have a full set in my wife's Highlander, they fit well, she runs them year around although we feel they're a pain to clean, the surface seems to grab and really hold onto dirt. Also have a pair on my regular cab Tacoma, I don't feel they fit well although do protect the carpet and once again I feel they are a pain to clean.
