Post Leasing a TL-S

Has anyone leased the 2001 TL-S? If so, what is the going rate for the money-factor and residuals (especially for a 36 month lease)?

I really like the car but unbelievably I am having no luck getting lease numbers out of the dealers ("we haven't leased one yet and don't know the numbers" or "drive 30 miles to our dealership and we might be able to tell you"). I am going to give up in another day and get the BMW 330i. The BMW has good residual and money factor - 66% residual, 2.5 money factor (6%) so a loaded one is quite affordable.

These are not very expensive cars.
However, if you are paying this much money, you may want to get the car you want rather than a better lease deal.
The way acura works, I doubt there will be subsidized lease deal for 2002 any time soon.
That's one advantage for leasing a bimmer.
The difference in $$ doesn't make much difference. Why don't you just get the car you want?
Between TL-S and 330i, it won't take me more than a second to get TL-S. But, of course, that's me.

Hi, here's some residuals I was quoted from my local dealer for 12,000 miles per year.

36 months 64%
30 months 68%
24 months 72%

I think money factor varies from dealer to dealer. I wonder if money factor is negotiable??? Anyone?

I'm about to lease myself. The Fed is supposed to cut the prime rate as much as .75 this Tuesday. I wonder if this will affect the money factor on leases and if so how soon? Can anyone enlighten me on this??

Thanks

I would be very happy with either the BMW or the Acura. They are both great cars.

Thanks for the residual numbers. Money Factors can vary - I am just trying to get some idea as the local dealers do not want to seem to sell the car.

The BMW fully loaded comes to over 40K+ (with the nav, etc. - everything that is standard on the TL-S :-). If the monthly lease price is close I will go with the BMW merely because it is a better "value" relative to the overall car price.

The 330 BMW seems so much smaller to me. I don't see comparing them with the TL for that reason. I mean, why even get a 4 door if the back seats are that limited? Not to mention the width of the cockpit. It looks like the BMW has much less room, but I've never even sat in one so I'm speculating. Seems like the 530 would is comparable in terms of passenger room and overall size.

Looks like I am getting the BMW over the TL.

The TL lease numbers I received:

Both TL-S with Navi 36 months, 12K a year, 2K out the door

Dealer 1:
$587 + tax (didn't get the detals)
Dealer 2: (money factor: 4.5 (10.8%))
$586 + tax

The current price I have on the BMW 330i completely loaded (42K+ MSRP) w/ the same parameters is going to run less than both those leases including tax (possibly a lot less as I looking into getting an even better money factor)

If you are looking to lease, there are definitely better deals out there than the TL-S. If you are paying cash it is still probably tough to beat the value of the Acura.

They are trying to screw you over. The money factor is negotiable and should be comparable with a new car loan.(About 7.5%) I don't blame you for going with the Bimmer if they are giving you a reasonable no hassle deal upfront.

Question

How much is the BMW 330i lease? I stopped by Acura dealer near my home and sales person said he will not negotiate from sticker price on any TL.

BMW has a special lease rate on the 330i. I am currently being offered 2.5 (6%) but have heard and am pushing for 2.1 (5.04). With around a 66% residual on 36 months if you load up the 330 (premium package, sports package, cold weather, xenon headlights, and gps) you should be in the mid 500s before tax.

My current deal on the BMW 330i looks like: ~ $1500 off invoice (cap cost around 40,500), 2K out the door (includes security deposit, taxes, licensing, etc) and just shy of $590 a month with tax. I am hoping to do even better.

If acura was even close to the money factor of the BMW I would get it instead (should put the Acura's payments on a similar deal in the mid $400 range). (The Acura dealer even told me to get the Beemer when I told him the price :-)

Thanks, I think I'll check with my credit union to see what they offer for lease on both the BMW and Acura.

That sounds like a great deal. Please let me know if you get the 2.1 rate.

Thanks,
Steve

Best to think about those numbers. Current credit union rate is 6.5% for a loan. $30k over 5 years would yield a payment of $587 same as the lease. Which would you rather have and the end of your lease period, a car mostly paid for or nothing?

Based on the lease numbers I was given, I agree leasing a TL-S makes absolutely no sense - you can buy it outright for very little more money.

The BMW is a 42K car (loaded) so the financing is not an apples-to-apples comparison (the finance payments would be much higher on the car).

Whether the car is worth the extra money is a matter of personal opinion :-)

I just got a quote from my credit union, 2002 TL (not the type S...dont need the extra HP and stiffer suspension). $437/mo (GAP, taxes, plates included in that), 15,000 miles per year, 39 months with only a $100 refundable security deposite due out of pocket. That deal is not bad the for base TL, no dealer in NJ I've been to could beat that deal.
