Kill then killed

I was on my way home from FIU south campus driving on SW 8th st towards 826. I see a white 96 impala SS with a blue racing stripe down the middle of it. SO i gun it so he can hear my CAI but he doesnt respond. Luckily we get stopped at a light and I can hear him revving his engine. SO i was like "Its on". When it turned green we both gunned it. It was even until about 40 when i started pulling away and never looked back. I didnt know that Our TLS could take the LS-1 engine (i think thats what it has).
And just after the guy turned off sw 8th i got stopped at a light with a stock looking civic except for a performance muffler. I thought he was a ricer becasue he had the wheels on with no hubcaps to make it look black. I didnt know if he was going to race so when the light turned green i took off. The i hear the sound that indicated to me that i was about to be spanked, psssssssssshhhhhhhhhhh. His turbo BOV was very loud and he just came from behind me and spanked me nasty. I was flooring it also and he made me look like I was going in reverse. I didnt even catch up to him becasue I didnt want him to get the satisfaction of knowing that he beat me. Well I hope you enjoyed my stories.

Yeah I think the Impala's do 0-60 in the sub 7 range, so it would be a good race.

I was very impressed with how fast that civic was. I might have given my 1999 r6 an run for its money.

The SS has the same engine as the Camaro Z-28's 93,94 (275hp)95-97 (285hp) the LT-1
but only with less horsepower (260hp) and several 100 more pounds to it. Big Difference!
I can't believe people fell for that stupid Chevy Trick! Hey Lets take a Caprice and call it a Impala SS
and put a Corvette motor in it and Charge 30,000+ GENIUS !!!!!

Impala SS 94-96 Came with a corvette LT-1 260 Hp stock. 1/4 is in the 15 range...its a sweet car. you said you saw a white one with blue racing stripes? chances are it was a Caprice which also came with a 5.7 LT-1 only on the cop package though. The impala came with a limited variety of colors. Cherry red, black and a dark green.. i dont know why anyone would re-paint one unless they were doing a fancy job...but thats awesome you smoked him...its not a half bad car tho

Impala SS?

Yeah this is a detuned LT-1 motor that was even in a Buick Roadmaster. I always wanted to run one with my TL-S for fun. I also want to try a GT Stang with 260 HP. We are heavier but it would be fun I feel. I have a Corvette so I know what Quick rides are, but this TL-S is still fun if you consider what it is and what it's purpose is. Kinda heavy to go out looking for races in at 3550pounds. These SS Impalas sold well because they werent $30 K.......they were cheap and well loved for what they did.....command nice resales today. it wasn't an impala if it was white, probably a caprice...unless it was an impala that was repainted

The Impala SS was a nice car. Ford tried to accomplish the same thing with the Mercury Marauder this year. They put the 300HP Mustang Cobra motor in a Darth Vader all Blacked out Grand Marquis.
DO NOT worry about racing these. They sound awesome but are complete dogs. I test drove one and could have bought it for $9000 OFF of the $34,995 list price. 0-60 is in the low 7 second range.
Sad part was, I met the Service Manager at the dealership who showed me his Marauder. He got a "chip" from Ford that cost him like $500, but it bosted his HP to 438! He drove it for me and the thing was insane. (0-60 in under 5 sec) :wow:
Sorry, but 438 HP with rear wheel drive car as your everyday driver doesn't work in NJ in the rain or snow.
As for racing a 260HP Mustang, I don't advise it. It will blow the doors off of a stock TL-S. I KNOW, I have a 93 GT 5.0, which was rated @ 225HP (actually 205, but that was a Ford getting ready for a de-tuned car in 94) My 5.0 is faster than my TL-S, and most 260HP Mustangs run sub 6 second 0-60, and very low 14's in the 1/4 if it's a stick. I guess you have nothing to loose if it's an auto, but how do you know @ a stoplight?

Dude there is no way that '93 5.0 is faster than your Tl-s, unless your have alot of mods done to it! I had a '91 5.0 5spd and i thought that thing was a turd mid 15.xx sec car! true you can mod the hell out of them but it still a Mustang and not a mid 2 high 14.xx sec luxury car. just my opinion from experience

FugittiveTLS...don't let that flat torque curve fool ya. The stock 5.0L Mustang 5 speed doesn't have that V-tec kick, but it trips the quarter in the mid to high 14 second range if you know how to drive it. I would call that mid-15 sec 5 speed 91 you had either (a) out of tune/high mileage, (b) full of mulch or some other heavy chit, or (c) driver's error.

He got a "chip" from Ford that cost him like $500, but it bosted his HP to 438!
Sounds like salesman garbage to me. That engine is the exact same engine as the MACH I (minus ram air). I'm sure it was fast with $500 in mods (probably gears, CAI, chip), but 438HP from that motor is just not possible for that amount of money.

I dunno how much HP the Marauder had, but the guy was going to lunch, so he said, "watch this..." He punched the gas and the thing just screeeeeeamed! He smoked the tires like I have never seen, going DOWNHILL. He must have laid a 130-150 foot strip of rubber. It was truly awesome.

As for what a 5.0 is "supposed to do," or what your '91 did, I can't say. All I know is that my '93 CONVERTIBLE has run 14.3 in the 1/4. It is basically stock except for a K&N Filter, (silencer intake removed) 3.73's, timing advanced to 14 degrees and cat-back Dynomax system. And again, it is a rag-top, so any 5.0 hardtop should be able to do the same.
(by the way 26k on the odometer)

If you plan on racing a newer 260HP Pony, expect to get beat. The ONLY way one of those will lose to a TL-S is if it is an AUTOMATIC or the driver is a complete imbecile.

I'm not picking on the TL-S, I OWN ONE.
When I want to cruise around with gobs of torque and spin the wheels, I drop the top and drive my Mustang.
When I want to act my age and drive an awesome "luxury sport sedan" or take a few people with me, I drive the TL-S.
And I have an awesome time with that too.

I think half the problem with some of the people on this forum is that they get offended when people say things about Acuras.
Take each car INDIVIDUALLY for what it was designed, built and sold for, whether it's a Ford, Acura, BMW or Ferrari.
Each is made to serve a different purpose and if people would stop comparing Apples to Mangos, things would be a lot simpler on this forum.

A) Nope.......brand new motor installed by Ford, and rebuilt tranny!
and if i remember correctly it had 50K on the Odometer when i sold it...should have given it to Good Will

B) No again.....

C) Sorry again... I know how to drive a 5spd W/ a 3(slow)02 motor in it. Now if you guys said it had a 351 (AKA) Cobra i would shut up

88- 93 stock GT's are not low to mid 14.xx sec car....IT IS DOCUMENTED FACT!!

I rest my case, your '93 is not STOCK except maybe for the gears.
Mine was totally Stock Except for K&N.

Sorry i was just stating my opinon from EXP as i said before

"basically stock except for a K&N Filter, (silencer intake removed) 3.73's, timing advanced to 14 degrees and cat-back Dynomax system."

Well, these are the "typical mods" ANY Mustang owner would do. Timing Advance -$0
Removed Silencer Intake - $0
K&N Filter -$40
3.73 MotorSport Rear -$189
Dynomax CatBack Exhaust - $200

Low 14's with a 10 year old Pony Ragtop = Pretty Cheap

Anyway, as I said before, we shouldn't be racing any V8 Mustangs with our TL-S.
We won't win unless the Mustang is an automatic or the car is sick.
BTW, you wont find any Cobras on the street with a 351.
The 93-95 Cobras had 5.0's (302ci)
The 96-03 Cobras have Mod 4.8's (281ci) with varing HP from 300 up to the present 390.:wow:
The ONLY 351 was the 1995 Mustang CobraR which is basically a collector's car which was built for the track.
If you see one, just admire it, please don't race it. They run in the high - mid 12's.

Again, an example of not comparing cars that were built for the same purpose.

I hope you are kidding. Unless he had a VERY detuned supercharger or turbo on his marauder then that is TOTAL bull****e. There is no way in hell massaging fuel and timing tables on an NA motor will give you 178 hp!! It just doesn't happen. EVER.

Ah, the power of placebo....

Hey guys, sorry for the incorrect info.
I found out yesterday when I stopped by the dealership (for business reasons) that MOST of what I told you is true.

The Mercury Marauder in question DOES have some 430 HP.
The car runs sub 5 second 0-60, and low 12's in the 1/4 with street tires.
The only additions to the car were,

1) A Ford supplied, "special chip" supposedly not available to the general public, or at least not advertised in any Motorsport book.
2) Wider tires out back.
3) A different "pulley" for the stock supercharger (supposedly one from the Ford F150 Lightning truck)
4) 3.90 rear
5) Rear wing.

Again, this is what I was TOLD. I am not nor will I ever pretend to be a mechanic.
All I know is I have NEVER seen a burnout and that kind of torque display on a street car, in person, EVER.
It was WILD.
Not that I condone smoking your expensive rubber and endangering civilians.

A different "pulley" for the stock supercharger
Ah-ha! That salesman forgot to mention his $500 mod didn't include the supercharger. The stock Marauder does not come with a supercharger so this explains the crazy HP numbers.

I was looking at a black '03 Cobra convertible this weekend...only 1500 miles and only $35,995. Very mean looking! Hmmmm. To buy or not to buy...

88- 93 stock GT's are not low to mid 14.xx sec car
If you were driving it right if you could break into the 14's. Did you ever take it to the track? Also, did you get a lot of wheelspin? If the magazines (and tons of other Stang owners) can get into the 14's you should have been able to.

Sorry i was just stating my opinon from EXP as i said before
I also speak from experience...I used to own a 93 GT 5 speed and I currently own a 1993 5.0L notch (high mileage AOD car with a few mods). The GT 5 speed was easily a high 14 second car and with a couple cheap mods would have turned mid 14's.

Purchase the Cobra, that car is insane, but work them for a better price if possible.

Wheelspin? In a Mustang GT? You bet your a**!
I took it to the track once. 14.3.

BTW. I had a '87 Hatchback that had the same mods as my convertible except it had the stock 2.73 rear. It ran a 14.2 in the 1/4.
I don't know who is driving mid-high 15 second Mustangs, but if you are, you may as well buy a SVT Focus and enjoy the handling.

Catcha, I can find a Cobra coupe with less than 5K miles for under $30K, but I cannot find a used vert for less than the $35.9K I found this past weekend. I guess if I want it bad enough, I'll pay the extra dough for the droptop....

Never owned a convertible before. My kid loved riding in the backseat of my parents' 2002 Carrera with the top down this past weekend, but it's outta my price range by about 30 grand! That's what Mustangs are for - bang for the buck. LOL!

I guess we've successfully hijacked this thread. Oops! You should hang out on Mustangworld.com's forum. I'm on there frequently.

Yeah, the ragtops are tough to get. I HIGHLY recommend it.
It's like owning 2 different cars.

"I guess we've successfully hijacked this thread. Oops!"
I guess it just goes to show that you can love all kinds of cars, not just one type/brand/style etc.

I started out as a Muscle Car Freak. I've owned 2 67 Firebirds
(1 was a 400ci) and a 79 T/A with the 6.6 Liter. My one brother owns a 69 GTO and a 2002 Z28 SS thatr runs high 12's.
My other brother owns a 78 Firebird T/A.
They BOTH love my TL-S.

It's all about appreciating other things.

I'm not comparing a '93 mustang to a '03 TLS 2 totally different cars! I AM SAYING THAT MY P.O.$HIT MUSTANG WAS AS IT SHOULD BE, A 15.00(are you happy) SEC CAR!! Even Motor Trend has it at 14.9 - 15.6's STOCK Thats the key WORD

How about I go get a real car '97 Pontiac Tran Am that i turned a 13.74 @102 mph in and Whoop both of you. All it had was 2 chamber Flowmaster and K&N

Oh and if you want some documentation there is a web sight
CAR-STATS . com all of there info comes from the car MAGS

Wow, pretty touchy, huh?
Listen, you hated your Mustang. That's fine. I've owned a few cars I wouldn't buy again too. As a matter of fact, I know alot of people that aren't happy with their cars.

I NEVER said that one car was BETTER than the other.

I LOVE my TL-S! I also LOVE my Mustang!

As for racing me a rattle trap '97 T/A, I wouldn't bother. My Mustang is a rag-top, It's heavy. I use it for cruisin' and relaxation. It hasn't even been to the track in 5 years. I KNOW that a T/A is faster, why take a chance and get in an accident?
Com'on, the F-Bodies were so crappy that they had to STOP MAKING Them.
If you say a stock 5.0 ran high 14's-mid 15's fine, whatever.
5.0 Magazine and Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords Mag were running mid-low 13's in the early 90's with STOCK cars.
My 93' has been slightly modded and I never went to the track before it was. Besides, MOST Mustang owners will do the same mods I did. You have to take that into consideration when you pull up next to one. On top of that, my basically STOCK '87 ran a 14.2 with the lamest stock 2.73 highway gears. Go figure.
Again, you are not getting my point. It is that everyone should enjoy their car for what it is and modify it if you like. If you are in a TL-S, don't go hunting down Mustangs, Camaros and Firebirds. YOU WILL LOSE.
If you are on a Harley do you race a Yamaha R6? I hope not.

By the way, 13.74 doesn't impress me, my Brother's Z28 runs consistant 13.2's and it's an Automatic.

Sorry if this thread is getting out of hand, but it seems like sometimes people either don't understand what someone else is saying, or just don't care.
I hear you. You don't like Mustangs.
The one you owned was crap.
You think your TL-S will beat them all.
Knock yourself out, go chase them. I wish you luck.
Watch out for the ones with the "little snake" on the side.
They Bite.

I would never buy another Ford....we can do this all day....(i did
8.99@130 mph on my moped)...it was my OPINION about the GT....you know (AMERICA) 1st Amendment...Stuff like that!

BTW I have raced late 80's-98 Mustang GT's I won some and Lost some no big deal some are SLOW and Some are MODED to the gills

"anyway subject dropped"

Fair enough.

Hey, it was fun bustin' balls with you.
All in good fun, I'm sure we provided some entertainment,
(look how many people READ this thread!) and I TOTALLY AGREE w/ You about 1st Amendment.
(I'm a strong supporter of the 2nd also)

BTW, "i did 8.99@130 mph on my moped" made me LOL.
