Keyless Entry Remotes & Transponder Keys from Ebay???

Are the keyless entry remotes and transponder keys listed for our cars on Ebay OK??

I'm not a big Ebay fan and generally haven't had good luck with my experiences there. However, my 02 TypeS only came with one key and no remotes, so the temptation to save big bucks over going to the dealership is a strong pull.

What are some experiences with these items off Ebay?
Are the remotes prone to stop working soon afterwards?
What does the dealership say when you ask them to program a transponder key you didn't get from them?

There seem to be two places-Midwest Remotes and Remote Supermarket. Is one better than the other?
Sorry for so many questions, stop me before I ebay again!!!

I used Midwest remotes for my sister's 99 VW Passat remote and it worked great! They offer free instructions to program it if possible. Her car had to be programmed at the dealer. Got that done while getting a key cut and programmed (also from ebay ).
