edga: Hmmmm. That claim is in my opinion absolutely invalid, but notice they do not reference efficiency against standard ASTM metrics, which probably let's them get away with it.

To the 125k "guarantees" do not impress me guy: I think you missed the point if you are referring to Ford's new filter. They do not guarantee it, they claim a 150k service life. That speaks to filtering capability and capacity, not mfr. guarantee.

Foam has been used in RV's, motocycles for a long time, as they need the capacity and filtering effectiveness since these filters are very small.

Unifilter has been around since the 80's, but Ford''s design is all new.

Hey, I typed "The End". Doesn't that count?

Anyway, to the "incontrovertible" post it man; a claim without a guarantee is kinda like an oral contract - it isn't worth the paper its written on.

Signed,

The 125K "guarantees" do not impress me guy

P.S. What auto magazine do you write for Double R?

I can take a dump into a box and slap a guarantee on it, but its still just a dump in a box.!!

Astute observation Daryl. As long as you don't guarantee it to do anything but smell, you probably won't get into any legal trouble.

Lawman: If I tell you, I'll have to....wait, you are an attorney, that would be an explicit threat of bodily harm, no?

I really must maintain some anonymity and distance, but it is a consumer newletter published monthly with no advertising.

LOL. I certainly understand a man's preference for privacy.

You didn't know that??? K&N licenses the filters out...so it won't say K&N on it. If it's the cotton gauze material..it's K&N.

Nope. I didnt know that they had a monopoly on that type of filter material. I was under the impression that just because one company uses paper as a filter element, that another company could also use the same type but build it differently. If all gauze filters are K&N filters, then who makes the foam filter for the Comptechs? And who has the original patent for the paper filter?

On filtering anything, you just can't have it both ways. I administer anesthesia and if I use a special blood filter that will filter down to 2 microns, I don't get near the flow through the filter as I do with a regular blood reciepent set. If you are in a trauma situation you need more blood flow at least for the first few units until the patient stabilizes. On my home AC filter, in the winter I use a pleated filter that catches more dust and pollen and severly reduces my air flow, but that is ok in the winter when I am not using the AC. In the summer, these pleated filters restrict the air flow so much that I get extra condensation on the pipes coming to my ac, creating water all over the floor etc. Put in the reg. filters and the problem is remedied.. I think of the car filters the same way. There has to be a trade off between air flow and adequate filtration for the engine.. You cant have it both ways. just my 2cents

Around and around and around...we keep covering the same material.

The Comptech is a Unifilter. A UNIFILTER! U-N-I-F-I-L-T-E-R. The Comptech cleaner and re-oiler are made by Unifilter. U-N-...get it?

Of course filtering and flow are related. But that doesn't make the air filter choice binary. You want a filter that flows more air than the engine can use, and yet filters well. That is the Comptech.

A 3.2L V6 can only handle so muchair - putting a sewer main inf ront of it will not add power. The Comptech flows far more than the engine can use, and offers full-depth filtering. What more does one need to know?

AEM CAI

Has anybody had any problems w/ AEM CAI, dirt, water, performance? I've seen a powerflow by HKS and it looks like it has the foam element??? I've also seen some other cone filter that was made of foam but can't remember right now. There are so many damn elements out there. One could put the powerflow on the end of the AEM piping and have the best of both worlds, no maybe a very expensive world but could be done.
