K&N air filters
I have heard a lot of talk about these on the forums..Are they worth getting? .. What advantages can u expect from it?

if you plan on keeping your car for a while, it's worth it from a cost standpoint. cheaper to go with a k&n vs continually changing air filters in the long run cuz they're guaranteed for a million miles (aka your ownership of the car).

most auto parts stores carry k&n, and if they dont have it in stock they can order it for you

It doesn't filter as well which lets in more dirt, thus contaminating your oil at a faster rate (which might cause more wear) and cleaning/reoiling the filter is a chore.
I'd rather replace a fiberous filter which filters better than one that filters less and is harder to clean.

they did a commendable job testing air filters.

The differential pressure test was performed using a water manometer where one psi of pressure is equivalent to 27.7" of water. The differential pressure was measured between atmospheric and the pressure drop after the air filter in the stock airbox. The max pressure drop in this test was seen at only 7.0 inches of water or 0.25 psi. The factory airbox and piping with no filter yielded a pressure drop of 5.0 inches of water or 0.18 psi. That means that the worst filter in this test only caused a pressure drop of 0.07 psi. In my opinion, this means that if you are picking an air filter based on performance, you probably aren't doing your car any favors. For the record, the K&N was the best flowing filter. Of the 3 types of media tested, the cotton gauze type filters flow best. There are other brands besides K&N for sale, of which most are probably made by K&N for resellers. Foam air filters flowed marginally better than paper.
In the end, paper or fiberous filters do remove more particles from the air before they enter your engine. The cotton gauze filters indeed offer better airflow. You have to decide for yourself whether you value ever last ounce of power or filtration. I cannot, nor will I make this decision for you. I do know that on a relatively stock car with a properly sized air filter, you indeed have very little if any performance to gain by swapping filtration material.

I got a K&N drop in filter because all the stores in town wanted something like 30 bucks for a paper filter (puralator or Fram) and the K&N I got for 50 something. No place (other than the Acura Dealer) had any in stock so it had to be ordered. For ease of use and long term $$ I went with the K&N.
Filtration wise, I think it is a lot better than any of the two other brands I mentioned...

I just put one in my car. For some reason, I can't really tell much of a difference in horsepower and definitely no change in gas mileage. The car only has 39k on it, and I just ran some Chevron Techron fuel injection cleaner in it as well. I still get between 18 and 19 around town, 20 if i baby it. Haven't taken an all freeway trip yet.

there are multiple resonators. The main resonator in the tl is a big chunky ass plastic thing in under your air filter close to the left wheel well It restricts air flow to your engine and...taking it off will make ur car sound deeper

I have an 03 TL-S and just got done installing a K&N Drop In filter. It was VERY hard to put the cover back on. There are two clips that were nearly impossible to latch, one under the airflow tube and the other against the battery. I couldn't get the clip under the airflow tube to latch, but everything seems nice and tight.
Does anyone think I did it wrong or have a better way to do this?
Thanks.

Nope, its a pain the first time it goes in.
The first time I did it I broke a clip and traded with a fellow on this board for his airbox (he installed a CAE) for my sunroof visor.
But after that it is a bit easier to install. The rubber kinda "molds" to the seal of the airbox.
Its all good.

Does any want a used K&N Airfilter?? Because I'm going for CAI, so it has to go.
I bought the filter less than a month and less than 200 miles on it, pretty new and clean. PM me if you're interested.

You can put the air box back in if you want but it really doesn't do anything except queit the engine noise a little... I have had mine off for about 10K miles now and I am not regretting 1 mile of driving... K&N plus the air box removal is the way to go if you don't want to buy a CAI...
Its sweet!!!
