K&n

Is there anyone with a stock '99 TL with a replacement K&N air filter? I'm considering getting one for reasons of better mpg and slightly more hp. If you have one, can you tell any difference. I don't have enough money to get a CAI or any other intake modifications. I hear that the K&N drop in adds some noise to the engine but i'm fine with that considering that with my radio on I usually can never hear the engine and find my self cruising around in VTEC.
:p

I had one on my 4 Runner before. It gives a little bit better responds, but the gas mileage was pretty much the same. I like it more than the CAI cause I like to keep my cars quiet.

K&N filter p/n for 99-01 TL is 33-2133. I have my resonator removed and K&N. I don't see any significant improvement in mpg, but it does sound louder when you gun it and when vtec kicks in. The throttle response is better from stand still or hwy crusing. Make sure you reset the ECU after you install the filter.

What's that about resetting the ECU after installing the K&N filter? What is it and how do I do it?
Thanks

look at the drivers side fuse panel .... one of those fuses should say ECU ..... remove that fuse for a minute and depress the brake pedal ..... then re-insert the fuse and drive how you'd like it to learn .....

I think he is suggesting that the ECU will "learn" the way you drive or how to respond to your driving habbits..

By "learning" the car becomes to respond more naturally to the way I drive. I drive inconsistently. Sometimes i like to use the autostick and have fun and play with the VTEC. Sometimes I like to drive like my father and conserve gasoline.
How should I proceed?

Just drive like you would, ECU can learn on its own.
