Nice kill, man! I haven't found anyone racing with me from 0-60mph on a stop light yet. But last night, I was racing with an tricked out civic going uphill. What a joke!! I looked at my rear mirror and he was like at least 6 car length back when I hit over 5,000 RPM.

Yes it was a manual, cause I could hear his engine reving at stop light trying to intimidate me and my wife and. We were 4 people in my TL-S.

I could not hear his 2nd gear shift cause I was too far ahead of him when he shifted in 2nd....Hehehehe

Good for you! I hate those volkswagen owners, bunch of BMW or Audi wannabes...most think they have some sort of ultimate german perfomance machine or something!

Wow, so ignorant, yet so stupid..I own a 97' GTI VR6 and a 2002 TL Type S Agean blue...I love both cars...I am in no way a BMW or Audi wannabee..My GTI will smoke any TL-S on the road, and any factory BMW or Audi...I dont think it is the ultimate car, but i put a lot of work and sweat into it...I am not gonna mention my 1/4 et's for certain reasons, but let me tell you that, my GTI reaches 114mph!! in the 1/4 mile..It is fully built, bored out to a 3.0 with 83.5mm JE Pistons, and i have a few other tricks up my sleeves...I dont understand why everyone cant get along..I just joined this forum and i dont like it already..I came on here to talk with people who love cars, and have info on the TL-S, not ignorant fools who know absolutely nothing about cars...You are a perfect example of a moron..You just gave this forum a bad name in my eyes..

My enthusiast friend --> where in the above posts did you read where anyone stated that a TL-S will outrun a M O D I F I E D Farfegnoogen GTI VR6???? What is wrong with a statement like .. " You know fellas, I have spent a lot of time modifying my GTI VR6, and frankly I'm very proud of the performance I've squeezed out of it. I am quite sure it'll outrun any STOCK TL-S.." Enlighten us w/ your knowledge, rather than condemn everyone for not knowing what a modified auto such as yours will do. Also, I do agree it's pretty lame to knock all Volkswagen owners for being Audi/BMW wannabes.. You'd then have to follow that statement up by saying that all Toyota, Honda, and Nissan owners are Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti wannabes.. Whatever.

I have a friend who owns a Jetta VR6 ('00) and I've driven in it a few times -- stick shift -- that car flies! I'm not sure if it would outrun a stock TL-S --> but it'd be a good, close run! The Jette is built very solid, and it has many features I've only seen in German autos.

Just finished 5 hours of wash/dry/glaze/wax on the Jetta - She's a happy camper and so's the Type S WDP (waiting for wax in June). I don't think any offense was meant by other posters, just pride in their ride.

The GTI VR6 is a shitbox with 174 hp! It does not even come anywhere near the performance level of the TL, let alone the TLS!

GET REAL! Volkswagens are lowly cars built for transportation, not for performance! Their very name translated means "People's car"!! I'm sorry you were stupid enough to fall for the german hype and buy the VW piece of crap when there are superior japanese alternatives that deliver much better reliability, quality, performance and value for a lower price. Then again maybe you realized this and are now MAD ! :-)

And as knocking down VW owners...it is popular opinion that most (note the word most here) VW owners are arrogant, boring, self indulgent jerks... well kinda like you :-) Just look at their idiotic advertising...must appeal only to buyers with low IQ!

Let me tell you about something about the VR6's. When my 2000 TL had AEM CAI, CT Headers, Greddy Exausts, and VAFC (tuned by dyno shop), not to mentiong springs and sways for those that think that car height will make a difference. I raced a 99 Stock VR6 manual off the line and yes I beat it by several car lengths. Then we both hit the freeway...I was in front and by the time we both 110mph, he was actually gaining on me. Then we both got stuck cuz of cars in front of us, he got in front and same thing, close til we hit 110 again, he was pulling.

Considering that I beat a stock CLS in those days and my car had dynoed at 204HP to the wheel and about 198 lbs of torque (more than stock CLS/TLS and about the same weight or maybe lighter, I will say that the VR6 stock is not a joke as some of you may thinkr. In fact, I have my money on the VR6 Stock on the high end. BTW, it was a Jetta VR6, so I know the Golf is lighter and probably a bit faster. Don't take my word for it, go race one and see what happens. Trust me on this one!

 

I have to admit that recent VWs have been pretty well build...I have considered a Jetta GLX 5-speed before I bought the TL-S. It's a nice car, tightly assembled, and well equipped(especially the lit steering wheel controls, which would be nice on TL-S). But it just doesn't has the punch of TL-S.

BTW, if you DO own a TL-S, ain't you part of us "Honda People"???

And I agree with some, that compare a Moded car to a STOCK car is very, un-enthusiast...

When a TL-S Runs low 12's let me know...It will NEVER happen..I understand that my Acura is a honda, but i am speaking about the mentality of honda owners, i dont share this mentality..I love cars, and i give respect where respect is due..When i come on this board for the first time and there is someone saying that VW are POS and a TL-S will beat any VW...It gets me pissed how ignorant and unknowledgeable some people can be..

 

You have to relax. This is a TL forum. Of course people on here are going to think that the TL is the best car ever. I'm with you though, I love cars, all cars. Specifically, I love the TL-S, but I give props to any car that deserves it. You have to relax and enjoy the forum as a whole. You only have 5 posts and you already have made triple that in enemies. Believe me, when I had my TL modified I was a TL/CLS biggot for a long time til I got to drive most of the cars I was talking shit about. Now, I think I'm just a car enthusiast as I learned not to talk "pure shit" about any cars (except for given ones...)I use to say how I would crush the IS300, 330Ci, etc. and etc. Til I drove most of thoses cars. In respect to VW's, I think they are well made cars but so are the TL/TLS. The fact is, there is no car out there in the Entry-Luxo level that can really compete head to head with our cars when you compare price/performance/features ratio to the others. I have no regrets buying my TL, as a matter of fact, now that I drive the 540i most of the time, the TL is actually looking more and more prettier in my eyes.

BTW, no VW's will ever run low 12's either unless you mod the hell out of them, in which someone here did. But then that's a double edge sword question, hell, with Nitrous, SC, Turbo and combo of bolt ons, the TL/TLS will run that as well. I think someone was referring to stock vs. stock. Peter and I at least know what German cars can do on the high end as we both own one.

You have to admit, off the line, the TLS is a pretty kick ass car until we have to turn

You being a car expert should know that it is possible to make the TL-S hit those times with the same mods you prob have considering you prob have a turbo on there. Bore you the 3.2 to about a 3.5,headers, intake, exhaust, NOS, etc. etc. etc. If they ever made a supercharger or turbo for this car, whoa. And place all these mods on the new 6 speed TL-S and there you go. Cause its only fair to compare stick to stick

My VR6 is nitrous only, no turbo..I run the car in full street trim, full interior, and street drag radials..

Hmmm... this is the only post that seems to have initiated your crusade to save the endangered GTI's reputation. Even the original poster's message wasn't condescending in any way -- just stated that he outran a VW. You're a good guy, I can see that, just a little edgey. No need pursuing this --> Just for the record, I've seen timeslips for CL-S running at the track in Joliet w/ nitrous, headers, exhaust, and AEM intake running low 13's --> ok, it's not your low 12's, but w/ it's pretty impressive, and he didn't have drag slicks up front -- just the stock Michelins. Further, the TL-S tranny isn't built to sustain the heavy load of spraying nitrous, you'd need an L10 torque converter as well to get a better launch. Oh wait!!! what the hell are we talking about --> nitrous on a luxury car?? That's front wheel drive???? Hmmm... if this is your definition of ignorance, then ignorance is bliss! Enjoy your TL-S and GTI. I have a feeling you'll be posting on this board often enough.

I agree, unless you have like a big NOS canister and turbo combined, I don't see how you can run low 12's. Hell, you'll beat a 911 then I guess. But for the record, he did mention that his car was modded.
