Thumbs up Just One Thing...

I got to drive a Type-S last night, Nighthawk Black w/ Ebony Leather...The seats, emblem on steering wheel, wheels, tilt feature on passenger mirror, the avs system, 6 disc changer, fog lights, tail lights, memory seats & the extra 35 horses nice... But why did they have to go & mess up the front like that, looking directly at it, the grill & front headlight just does not look right. This just an opinion that I am making, I give it 3 1/2 stars...

Yeah i agree, it makes me feel good that i got my 2001 and not have waited for the type s. Who would have thought that they would have killed its looks with that front grill.

i haven't seen the 2002 TL-S in person yet, so i'll reserve my judgement (though from the pictures i've seen the front grill doesn't look like an improvement.) but i'll tell you what: i drive a '97 maxima, and look what nissan did to the next generation maxima (what's out now). puke.

But the Maxima's clone the Infiniti I-30, looks very nice....I like the Infiniti's looks better than the TL/TL-s...even though the TL is much better than the Infiniti in various other respects.

Having been a Maxima SE owner for the last 10 years (3 different models), I took a test drive in the '01 I-30t. After having test driven the '02 TL-S, I can safely say that the I-30t is no match. It rides big and somewhat sluggish, not at all what you would expect. The seats don't have much support either.

I have a '97 Max too. My neighbor has a '00. I have no desire to have that car. I like mine so much better. Although I like the Max that they were making in the early 90s even more.

I totally agree with you. I still have my black 1990 Max SE, and you couldn't PAY me to drive a 2000!!! *blah*
Let's just say that the French ownership of Nissan is starting to show!
And, I happen to think the '02 TL front looks great. Nicer and more aggressive than the '01 TL, and worlds better than ANY Infinity.

i don't want to go off-topic here, but when my friends and i saw the current maxima at the ny auto show, we couldn't believe it was a production model. the car has a great engine though. as for the infiniti, it is nicer looking than the current maxima, in my opinion, but still has a bland and muted look. nissan does have among the best car commercials though. the TL is a car that sells itself, but ad marketing is one area where acura could really improve on...it's web site sucks, the TV commercials don't show much of the car, and the past TL brochures have been pretty scant. but i'm looking forward to seeing the TL/TL-S at a local dealer this weekend.

Although nothing's as bad as those IS 300 commercials (radio and TV). I heard on Howard Stern this morning that Ricky Martin's girlfriend was talking up what a good lay he is in order to tone down the "he's gay" rumors, because his record company thinks that is what hurt sales of his last record. That's the same thing Lexus is doing with the IS 300. They've created these Viagra-like commercials to give men the impression chicks will really dig them if they drove these cars in order to dispell the impression everyone is getting that the IS 300 is a chick car.

As other posters would say, just my 2c.

So... what's it going to be TLS or Maxima for you. I made my decision. The Maxima SE goes back in a month (end of lease) and TLS is on order to be delivered at the same time.

i can't believe you guys are actually comparing these two... i had the '93 maxima before my tl, and when i went to buy a new car, i went to test drive the 2000 max, liked the handling and acceleration, and could live with the design, then just for the hell of it i went to test drive the TL and bought it. I don't think u can honestly compare them... the handling on the TL is so much better and sure-footed, and max feels like it's about to roll over, and for a car that has 227hp and is lighter than the TL i would expect better acceleration... and the interior.. don't even start on that... i think the TL is simply too classy to compare to the maxima... its kinda like comparing a benz 430 to the TL... just my .02c

oh... and the prices are almost identical on the two cars when u price a fully loaded maxima...

I do not think you understood correctly. The Maxima SE is a sport edition of the Maxima. It is equipped with a sport suspension. I compared it to the feel of the TL-s NOT the TL which is smooth riding car.

Aside from the HANDLING, the feel of the suspension is marginally different when going over rough roads. I have no reservations with the suspension ride of the TL-s.

Aside from the HANDLING, IN my OPINION the feel of the suspension is marginally different between the Maxima SE (1998) and TL-s when going over rough roads. I have no reservations with the suspension ride of the TL-s is is not as rigid as the CL-s.

not to start an argument, but i did test the 2000 se max, and now that i have the tl-s, i think what i said rings even truer... i think the TL had a better suspension than the SE, and the TL-S has a sportier tuned further improved suspension which is (for me) even better yet...

but to be fair i only had the stock springs on the TL for about 2 month, so i really dont remember what the stock TL drives like.. i just know that when i tested both the SE and then the TL in the same day, the TL was superior in every way(since then i've stayed by that opinion with the exception of the fact that the maxima, being made in japan, does not have any of the squeeks or rattles the the US assembled TL does).

Don't get me wrong, I prefer the TL-s suspension ride to my (or should I say soon to be given back) SE Maxima. before my test ride of the TL-s, I was worried that it would feel like the CL-s which I totally disliked the minute I drove in it.

u know what i really love about the CL-S? the seats... they are the most comfortable ones... they just hug u... i thought they would just transplant them to the tl, but they went and made them in between the cls and the tl
