so i went the opposite route that everyone recommended and bought a cheap intake off ebay. unfortunately it didnt come with directions and i have a 99 tl. needless to say, removing the stock intake was an assfuck! but i finally got it all out and finished my install. i bought an aem dryflow filter for the end of the pipe and i can FEEL the difference already i cant wait till the ecu finishes gettin used to it. i know im supposed to get about an extra 1 mpg but this thing has me flooring it all the damn time just to hear the hissing and roar of vtec! best 75 bucks ive ever spent.

i used some noname one, but ihave to say they did a good job on it, when i recieved the pipe it still had the shavings in it, seems like they made it when i ordered it, it was made for a 00-01 tl. i wanted an icebox but i didnt have the money and i couldnt find one, but i kinda like the aftermarket look more than the stock, seems more edgy when i open my hood. i also heard the icebox is quiet. aint it?

good job on the install. i remember when i did mine it was a bitch getting the resonator out. once that came out, the rest was cake. and yes, you can REALLY tell the difference with a cai.

yeah i got mine for real cheap on ebay, either way it works fine and sounds damn good, i love when i first start my car in the morning and you can hear the engine hissing at you whenever you give the gas even the slightest touch

CAB NY: yea thats what i figured, so i decided to save some money, im sure the shape of the pipe would make a performance improvement because of airflow, but its not that big a deal to me.
LeeDan00: YOU HAVE NO IDEA how hard it was to take that resonator off, i got so angry i ended up ripping that shit out, that thing is HUGE. i should have made a diy on taking it out on a 99. 1st step. remove bumber 2nd step. remove bolt thats reachable 3rd step. yank that shit out until the plastic cap snaps off and you got it.
bigeshorte45: yea i noticed that today when i went to the gas station, there was this guy that looked all confused when i turned my engine off and it was like SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

I think there is a header thread in the DIY area, look there... 6 hrs, nah - you just need ramps, a bernzomatic torch, and basic tools. It is pretty simple. Uhh, better make it 8..LOL

rsoesotidjo: well i paid 50 shipped for my intake, i dont remember the brand, but as far as i see it, just get one and a good aem dryflow, and you will be set, but if you got the money, go with a namebrand ones, the injens looks nice, and you can see how they manipulate the air in the pipe witt the shaping.
jperdoch: im DFFENITLY not doing the headers myself haha, me+torch=accidental 3rd know, like spacers haha. unless your willing to drive down here to Ga and do them with me :hopeful:

CAI was my second mod after Tsudo mufflers and I really like it. Never get tired of that sound they make
. I also got my Injen CAI off eBay when a seller was doing a Xmas blowout sale and got it for around 150shipped.

Nice I have an off brand CAI on my 99 too. I just don't see the point in paying all that money for a piece of metal pipe. How fun was all the radiator fluid spewing everywhere after you took off the stock intake?
If you are comfortable taking off you intake manifold and throttle body and everything, do the spacers (DIY HERE). Great mod for the $100. Just take your time and have a buddy help you out. You really could do it yourself, but it's nice to have a hand if you can manage that. Most important part is to label all the hoses and wires to make it easy when putting everything back together. Make sure to torque everything down to spec (included in directions included and DIY).
Also look into getting some headers. A lot of people (including me) are using XS Power which are just over $100 as well. There are cases of resonance but just take your time on the install and you should be fine. DC's are about $300(? (just a guess)) and Comptech even more than that.
You can get your exhaust mid muffler/resonators removed to have a more aggressive sound. Do a search for that for more info. Here's a link for a comparison, but you can't really hear it. A lot more audible in person.
