It is simply incredulous that Acura offered you such a bullsh*t deal, Peter. If I were in your shoes, I probably wouldn't buy another Acura, even the '04 TL that I am now so fond of.

I wish you luck in negotiating a settlement, I think it would be reasonable to deal you a new TL for invoice too in exchange for your car + $6k. I can understand your reluctance to just outright sell the car to someone else just to get rid of a potentially unsafe car.

bob, guys, thanks for all your support. I don't think Honda is willing to do anymore negotiating that they already have done (which is NO negotiations).

This case is closed until I go thru my third tranny. Till then, I hope I've helped add to the wealth of tranny/BBB info

I have it at the following:

www.is300.net
www.**********.com
www.acura-cl.com

I tried to post on www.maxima.org ... but they're down for server upgrades... so i'll post it as soon as they're done... so far, they're all getting lots of "looks" ... we can all make a difference in this way.

Theres also www.my350z.com. The only problem is that there are more people with tranny problems with 350Z. I myself had 3 tranny replaced in 6 month and I am filing a lawsuit with Nissan.
The funny thing is that Nissan Tech heard my grind and after 2 weeks later he told the dealer that my car was operating normal.

NISSAN is full of SH_T too. Although I really love my car.

Sorry to hear about your problem. I really know what you are going through. Luckly on my Acura TL-S (my brothers car now) I only had 1 tranny replaced and it has 75K no problems yet.

ssk,

THanks for chiming in. I didn't know the 350Z was also plagued w/ tranny problems ... auto or manual? or both? (i'm assuming manual b/c you mentioned "grind")

So you're no stranger to tl-s failures either.... makes you wonder why they only claimed 2% or LESS of TL-S's were affected... sounds more like 20%.

So they bought your car for 27k? How much did the lawyer cost? Do you still have to pay 6k PLUS taxes? Or is 6k include the tax?

Congrats man!! :wow:

lou at http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...hreadid=130667

made a good point. So if acura sold you the new TL at invoice then they gave you about 22k for your TL-S. Isnt your car worth about 20k?

22k plus 6k is equal to a new TL at invoice.

So really they gave you about 2k?

I wish you a lot of luck with the 04 TL!

But, I would not be so proud of getting a 04 TL, I truely do wish you luck, you have been reading the third gen pages haven't you?

Make sure you take a long test drive!

Great deal Peter. Personally, there is no way in anything resembling hell they'd get my business again, but we are glad you are pleased with the result.

I need to start offering my services as a counsel or something....lol

Congrats dude!

Thanks guys:

my car + $6000.00 .. case closed, no tax, title, license. My car is worth $19,000 - 20,000 on a trade-in, and a new TL at invoice is $29,675 w/o navi. You guys do the math. They gave me a TL at invoice, which I CANNOT get right now at a dealership as a walk-in customer, edmunds TMV (true market value) is close to $32,600. Plus, I am getting $23,000 for my car, which is worth only $20,000 on a trade-in. Plus, my car needs about $1200 in work right now, ding in the side ($500), alignment, vibration issues, warped rotors that will NOT continue to be covered under warranty.

The car runs like crap .. it's the best deal I could have expected w/ a good effort.

I'm not thrilled about the '04TL, to be quite honest, but it's better than risking life and limb in this POS.

1sick -- thanks for your support bro, i really appreciate it. Jesal, thanks too! Tread, thanks.

BTW .. BBB is free... there was no lawyer involved. BBB actually did jack **** for me, i was the main negotiator on this deal. The BBB felt that the first offer (my car + $11,000) was more than fair.. and I told them to go f---- themselves. I've been haggling with honda for the past three weeks on the phone, and finally i told them i was done haggling, either they give me my deal, or i go somewhere else to buy a different car and let everyone know how Honda treats their customers.

I really didn't think that they'd go that far. Wow...if you think about what you ended up with, you made out like a bandit.

When I heard your story, I put my self in your position, and I felt that with the mileage (not counting the dings or non-warranty mechanical problems) I thought that 8K differencial was decent.

And with that, I wouldn't have had a problem paying taxes & title fees. When you adjust for those fees, you are getting this car for the equivilant of $4,500 exchange.

larry ... that's how i figured it as well.. so, i'm very happy w/ this.

Quite honestly, $6000.00 was the number i insisted on, and I sort of don't doubt that if that number was $5000.00, they would have settled on that finally as well to shut me up.

But it's a good victory.

AWESOME! Congratulations! I am really happy for you.

Acura should be ashamed that they had to be shamed into a reasonable deal (see my post above).

By the way, Peter.....no tranny probs in 6k in my '04 so far.

This is GREAT news Peter. Glad you came through!!

You got what you wanted, 'coz you didn't flinch. Just hope (my own tastes) is that you got the 6M and not the 5AT, but that's your call. Anyway, CONGRATS!!!

This shows that there is light at the end of the tunnel, when most people think otherwise.

Best Regards....

The outpouring of support has been tremendous. Thank you all for taking the time to chime in. I'm glad enough people are seeing this happen.

Too many people are settling for crap resolutions from Honda. The tranny issue is a definite safety hazard, and people must recognize this over the "hassle of dealing w/ Acura .. or dealing w/ the BBB, etc"

Best of luck to all who choose to pursue similar avenues.

P.S. gunna stick w/ the auto, though the 6-spd was an even steven option on the table.

The auto is necessary b/c i driving in the city exclusively. I would love a 6-spd as a second car, but not for a primary vehicle. If I was opting for a 6-spd, i would have chosen my resolution to be Acura finding me an Acura certified '03 CL-S 6-spd to get into for no money .. just exchange my TL-S for that certified coupe. But I didn't not want a six speed.

Mods -- consider this thread as a possible sticky -- a lot of people can gain some insightful info from this i would think. Let me know if you need me to provide more details to make it worthy of "sticky status"

I already have first dibs. If my deal falls though, you can be second in line though, unless the headers aren't available anymore. Congrats Raj on your win. I hope you have better luck with the 2004.

How about selling your new '04 TL and getting G35 AWD?

You can probably get a pretty good deal out of it, since you got it for invoice price, and people are paying way over MSRP at the dealerships!

clc -

True Market Value for the TL in my neck of the woods is a little UNDER MSRP these days... i think most dealerships are willing to haggle on the price.

That said, I may just take my chances w/ this new car. The AWD system from Infiniti is making its debut in the sedan this year, so that may be a recipe for querks and quality issues etc

Plus, AWD with no HP bump won't be all that much (if any) faster than a TL 5speed auto. If you want performance and AWD, the STI or EVO are better buys, IMO.

Congrats!!! Im going thru some issues with my Accord right now, which may or may not be tranny related.

Unfortunately its been too long between trannies for Honda to seem to give a poop, so no replacement car for me.

Ill keep this in mind with my wifes TL though, I still say it acts funny. Maybe Ill just ask them for the Peter Ubers special
