just bought a '99 3.2 TL
hi everyone i just bought a '99 acura 3.2 TL today.. and it's wonderful! i love it! there's a few minor problems that i have to get fixed on it.. such as shaking when braking? loose door handle? other than that it's in pretty good condition.. oh and it can't play burnt CD's.. =( .. but i'm hoping i can learn more about my car in this forum/site.. and also, this is my first car.. ^__^
hmm what's with the transmission problem that i am hearing about? and what is auto stick? i know my TL came with auto + manual.. and i only use the auto.. is it the auto that messes up the transmission? or is it the manual?
hmm.. i got another question.. will the VTEC kick in on AUTO? or does it only kick in when using the MANUAL? if it only kicks in on manual, exactly how do i use the stick? i've read the manual on how to use it, but it wasn't very clear..

Welcome to Acura-tl.com! if you want to look up talked about topics you can use the search forum tool on the right side of the screen. it's a really usefull tool.
the can't play burnt CDs problem, i had too....i was playing IMATION brand....i then switched to TDK, and it works.....
the thing that messes up the tranny is the tranny...there's a defect in one of the gears, it overheats and get messed up.....the SS (SportShift) hasn't proven to harm anything.
VTEC kicks in whenever your engine RPMs get to 4800....or is it 4500.
you have to "feel it" when using the stick....when you push the shifter to the left (in D4) into the sportshift gate, you get to shift through the gears manually. you cannot control gears one and two....then when it's time to shift to 3, and 4 you can just push it forward or back.....normal driving you should shift at around 3000. and you can pull back and DOWNSHIFT through the gears aswell, but you cant go into 1....it takes a little while to get used to it.

tyou can conrol the gears one and two. once in a while the car automattically shifts 1 for u, but never 2. the best way to practice SS is to go around your neighborhood, and keep playing with it.the lowest rpm u can shift at is 2k. if u are wanting to save gas, shift before the car reaches VTEC. have fun, and welcome aborad.
thanks all for the replies.. =) so SS (sportshift/er) is the manual? and is proven NOT to mess up the transmission? but other than that it's the transmission itself that has problems.. thanks for the help =) ..
