Just bought a 2002 Acura 3.2TL Type-S
So.. I bought a salvaged 2002 Acura 3.2 TL Type-S, what should I do now? what kind of tune up should I do? It has 111,250 mileage on it. What kind of oil should I use? along with filter and spark plugs for this car?

What should you do now? Start modding...I use 5w-30.
You can upgrade your filter to a CAI for better mileage and performance. NGK Iridium is the stock plug and thats what is recommended.
Find out if timing belt service has been done or not, if not take care of that ASAP.
For some reason, your hood does not look right.

Whats wrong with the hood? Maybe it's just the angle where I took the picture? xD

have it looked at. If not you better start saving up. It is something you will have to have done if you dont want to worry about blowing up your motor. The timing belt service will run between 600 to 1200 depending on the shop you bring it to. CAIs can be bought used for decent prices or up to 200 new. Plugs are anywhere between 40 to 60 bucks depending on the deal you find for the 6 of them.

i would register with myacura.com and see if your tranny has been replaced or not. it will either say opened or fixed on the recall.
i would check under the hood and see if you see a oil jet on top of the tranny where you would put the new tranny oil in. that's another recall.
i would suggest since your at 111k to get or check to see if you did the timing belt, water pump, tensioners, drive belts, coolant flush, brake fluid, power steering fluid flush, pulleys for the timing belt.
all those factor in your car going another 100k and its well worth it if your going to keep it.
also on some 02-03 there is a recall on the timing belt pulley, it adds pre mature wear to the timing belt shorting its life so definitely get that checked out.
oil, i would use any oil thats 5W-30. i use castro gtx. as far as air filter. you are optional to use CAI, K & N air filter.
i personally would check the tranny fluid level right now for level and for the smell to see if its burning the 3rd gear clutch pack. because in these trannys (02-03) they usually die out due to a poor tranny case design especially for the added 5th gear. they basically took the 99 tranny case and squeezed the 5th gear into the tranny case. heat builds up especially on the 3rd gear clutch pack since its at a weird design angle
just check those out please, but that's a awesome ride and i hope all is well with it

Well, I already registered with myacura, it says my car is one of the ones that was recalled for airbag and the transmission problem wasn't fix yet either.
edit: I actually have a drop in K&N air filter from my 1999 Honda Accord V6, does it fit? will it harm to engine? xD
my dad is planning to replace the engine oil, transmission oil, and spark plugs.

you will get covereage on the airbag but not the trans warranty since you are salvage
Safety recalls are honored including the seatbelt and SRS warranties to 10/150
Assume the 105 timing belt was not done, and get ready for it soon-
look for any clean parts or slight edge marking on bolts to front cover indicating someone was in there recently

yes its suppose to stay at 5k rpm when in park at idle but once in D5 and you floor it it will go all the way up to 6500 rpm and then shift to the next gear.
do not overdo the rev limiter in park dude!

supertech are not great- dont even have anti-drainback valve!
spend a few dollars more and get a K&N or M1 filter to go with m1 extended/high mileage
or your choice like penz platinum
run seafoam in oil before change to clean oil passages and freshen the motor
5k rev limiter is to protect the motor- like showing off your quick rev light crankshaft pulley in a parking lot ziner meet-
There is also a rev limiter in your SS mode of shifting so you cant do a downshift too fast, and normal D5 driving- hit redline and it starts a stuttering feeling until you release some throttle
register with acura.com and 1-800-382-2238x5 need vin for both- different systems of acura but both should know what you need done
open on recall means needs to be done
you are part of the 7.9/109 extended trans warranty group

some 02-03 get a free timing belt job- call acura to see if part of that recall
you pay for water pump and tensioners- they do the rest as warranty for bad pulley
a dealer on here has the complete 105 package of parts they use at the dealer, with all the belts, idler and tensioner pullies for timing belt- about 300- shipped! deal!
see thread- some love for valentines or pm WholesalePartsGuy

So K&N oil filter is the best to go? I see at Kragen, they have "Royal Purple(?)" engine oil+K&N oil filter for $40...
I can't just take my Acura to the dealer and get them fix it without any appointment or anything?

Burning Brakes
Seafoam won't hurt my engine right? I was planning to do it today with my 98 integra but after reading some post in another forum saying it harms the engine..

As for the oil, the last time I checked Advance Auto Parts had a special...5 quarts Mobil 1 Extended Performance (the best synthetic oil they make) and same brand filter for $30 or so...I'd check that out first

denso will be ok- so are NAPA filters- Wix, the fram orange ones are made cheaper, like supertech
What you will want especially after seafoam the oil- is a good filter!!
RP oil is nothing special and m1 m1 package is good
Any major name brand oil will be fine- synthetic optional
Seafoam will not hurt anything- safe for sensors/cats and does burn in the engine- just not very well
follow the diy on here, last pages for current info, and add slowly to manifold vac port. add 1/2 can to oil and drive 30 minutes before change

you need an appointment for most things at the dealer, there are x amount of techs and certain jobs require a certain level of certified training and the parts may have to be ordered
With major recalls you really need an appt, and waiting around for the car to be fixed is a bad plan- drop it off and wait for the call that its ready
loaner car to those over 21 or 25 if available
as example the toyota recall says only `senior level techs` can perform the job, thats a very few of the staff that have been there for years... not all of them

got the car registered today and bought insurance, failed the smog check lol..
I guess it's the battery.. we changed the battery without driving it after the replacement (old battery was dead)

Oh yea, my stock head unit is missing from the previous owner, taking away the audio system with his after market things that was hooked up in the rear trunk. I'm planning to get a aftermarket head unit, but hows the sound quality?
#34
Well, I would have keep the bose system, if it came with it.. but the previous owner(s) took them off.. and replaced it with their own.. and when they sold the car to me, it didn't come with any stereo. I don't know what to replace it with, planning to replace it with a 3" DVD player head unit.. or possibly just a cd player with sd card/usb slot that supports mp3

when you change/disconnect the battery the ECU resets and can take up to a month of normal driving to relearn everything for Smog test- its a safety device to keep people from clearing a code and passing smog~
there is a method of specific driving you do for 45 minutes so it makes a fast relearn and can get smog

for actual fog just plain fog lights work
HID is for looks on them, too much light for real use
