Well today was the day my trans finally gave out. i was driving to work and i felt it jerk. so i was thinking nothing of it. but when i started going home after i finished, i had it in D5 and it went ok for the frist 5 mins then when it starts to shift to second it jerks a little more. i was like ohh crap. then along the way home i tried to check it out and see what was going on so i figure i jump in SS mode. still at the second gear accelerate it jerks like crazy. so im like crap so i just cruise it home and i leave it in D5. then al of a sudden the whole car jerks like crazy!! i was like WHOA SHIT!!!. then it goes to normal. then i drive it slow then it does it again. so i put it back in SS mode and just keep my speed low in 4th. i was like just make it home please!!!!.. but yup i guess my trans finally kicked the bucket. but man that jerk is fricken SCARY!!!!. scared the crap out of me. now i have to figure out how the hell im going to get it too acura. !!! crap.

First verify your vin number is covered by calling Acura at 1-800-382-2238 x 5

Then call local dealer- tell them car undrivable and please send the tow truck.
There is no charge to you for the tow! Part of the warranty service

It will help if you can drive another car to dealer and sign the paperwork, or ask them if a loaner car is available if you ride with the tow
Loaner car also part of the Acura Service!

Dont be surprised if you need motor and trans mounts- may or may not be covered,
may not be a prob on your year either- things were changed on 03

Let us know how it goes

yeah i already knew that my trans was already in the warrenty range. my vin is covered under the warrenty. I checked with my acura dealer and he verified with my vin. so i called my guy up and he said to bring it in. The funny thing is i was getting it ready for tomorrow to bring in. i took off my 19s and small things here and there in the engine compartment. i left my temp gauge though because i know that will not affect the trans.

But the weird thing is after i finished changing out the wheels and everything i took it for a small drive and i went slow first and it shifted ok. but not as how it use to be. but i mean it shifted fine. i was in SS mode though i did not want it in D5. I drove down the road and it was ok. i had it in 2nd and kind of rolled on the throttle and it was ok but i felt like it was not puling as hard as i remember. So im going to try and drive it too acura tomorrow and see what the hell is going on. the tranny does wine a little louder and higher pitched now. but it shifts though.

Im thinking its the beginning of the tranny failing?? or is it just me?? man this sucks. i cant tell if it is me or my trans. but could it be that when i took the 19s off it reduces the load on the trans?? hmm.. i guess ill have to just take it in and leave it for them to check it.

Does the update on the new trans work better?? i heard the new ones are a little detuned so it does not pull as much as it use to? hmmm.

What a relief to know you were covered going into it.

You have a normal situation
The car often dramatically warns of impending failure then plays nice.
Took the dealer 3 days to get mine to duplicate the probs
but its free so I didnt care much.

Once they knew what it was- the loaner car was given

The new trans bodys have improved oil passages and oring sealing paths
Have not heard or felt any less power with mine, it does take about 1000 miles for it to really get broken in and work good, it is new after all!

Congrats on your new trans!

I had a dream last night that my tranny effedd up on me. LOL! All these tranny failure threads I've been reading here...sheeesh. I don't know if I'll make the 7yr mark on the warranty before I hit the mileage that most of em start to fail at. My luck if it does go, it will be right after the warranty runs out. Hopefully not though...The oil-jet thing they did to it seems like a cheap fix, sorta like a band-aid on something that needs stitches. 2nd owner, no choice in that matter. Good luck man! You should ask for a new 2007 TL-S for a loaner.

The oil jet prob was a different issue than the clutch pack failure

The last known major updates the replacement trans was in Feb 05
and so far those units are holding up very well

Hey guys.

turned in my car today with las vegas acura. they took me in. the guy i always deals with is awsome. but yeah i thought it was ok. but when i started to drive it to acura it started to hesistate again and it jumped on me once when i was almost there so i was praying that it did not die on me.

but its all good they said that they put in a new ecu. he told me that it will have new shift points now. plus the new trans are suppose to be better. so i guess ill have to wait and see. so my car will be down till roughly tuesday or wednesday. they probably will get the trans in tomorrow or monday and it takes roughly two days for the install.

i wish they had loaners. they put me in a car from enterprise. but they are taking care of the bill except the $15 a day insurance thing. but ahh its ok. i wanted to drive the new TL but they did not have any so i figure i just want my TL back so the rental will be ok. just to get me too work and all.

but hopefully the new trans will hold up to everything. wish me luck.

ill update it once i get her back from acura.

ohh just for the record the tranny held up till 42k without the jet kit. once i got the car i put it on roughly at 45k about a year and half ago so it lasted an additional 17k miles. so the damage could have already been there.

Congrats and a few clarifications for you

The ECU Electronic Brains for the trans will LEARN your driving style and develope shift points based on that

The oil jet was a recall and should have been taken care of.
Its a different part and problem than the extended trans warranty for clutch pack failures

It takes a day to do both parts install

Many credit cards cover the rental car insurance for you- check it out and you could pay no $

What makes you think they get parts on a weekend?
The trans is a freight truck item

They usually get things here pretty quick. so they said next week tuesday or wednesday. so they better. if not im going to ask them for a acura loaner i dont like paying $15 a day for insurance if they can give me a loaner and not pay for anything. well thats what my guy said and hes pretty on it. either that they have a warehouse here and they get it from there. for some reason they do get parts here pretty quick. i hope they can finish it quick cause i want to drive my car. i just put HIDs in my fogs and i only used them for one day and my trans craped out. i was kind of bummed out cause i got a new toy and i cant use it yet haha.

The warehouse is probably in LA
Stuff goes on the truck and once at the dealer takes 1/2 day to do the job.
You are getting bent over with the insurance.
Why no loaner car? Other Acura dealers do
Call your credit card and ask about the insurance coverage
Its often a part of the service and many are not aware.
Or ask the dealer to give you credit with parts or service dept.
in the amount you spent on insurance.

hmm can you do that though?? i was thinking that I might ask them for a loaner as soon as they get one so i dont have to pay the insurance per day. they ran out of loaners so the best option was to get me a rental at enterprise. so i mean they are taking care of the initial rental but not the insurance. should i call them up and ask if they have a loaner to give me?? do you have to pay insurance on the loaners they give you??

thanks 01tl4tl.

Well my guy at Acura called me up yesterday and advised me that the front and side engine mount was ripped. so i had to get it replaced. not to bad. he said roughly $260 for both mounts. so he advsied me that its a good idea to do it now since the trans is out. so basically i save on labor. so thats the update so far.

im going to be picking up my car from the dealer today sometime so ill post up my comments on the new trans after i get it back.

Got my car back from the dealer. man its actually really nice to drive my car again. i really missed it. haha.

But as for the new trans its great!!! it actually shifts so smooth.

The funny thing is though i still have my tranny temp gauge and it still gets pretty hot. the trans oil was about 190 degrees. so the trans fluid still gets warmed up with the new updates. but i noticed on the new trans they dont have the jet kit any more. did they recall that kit as well? but the trans is awsome.

Plus i had to get new motor mounts and a rear main seal. they said it was leaking a little bit of oil so they fixed that while my trans was out. so in a sense it was a good time that all these things went out. so for $280 for my trans, mounts, and rear main seal i think its worth the new tranny. so we will see how long this one last and i must admit the new remanufactured trans shifts great. !!!!

is there a break in for the trans?? never had to break in a trans before. clutch yeah but not a new tranny. should i keep the revs below a certain point? or no shift in SS mode yet?? but new trans brings new happiness!!!

Congrats 808 Your car all Pono now yah!

New mounts- normal with trans and the oil seal- good catch for mechanic to see and fix, saved you hundreds $$$
On my new trans- I did a gentle run thru ss mode a few times to make sure it worked, then drove gentle to normal for first 200-500 miles. A few trips to vtec is fine- just remember you are getting moving parts to mate and work in harmony.

After that, as it starts to get even smoother than it is now- go ahead and do track days or whatever you want.

I plan to change the trans fluid often because its cheap insurance

ALL GOOD!!! haha.

01tl4tl. you from 808?? haha. not too much people know what Pono mean haha.

yeah im glad they caught all of that problems. it took an extra day but it was worth the wait and the time. to change a stupid $6 seal would cost me over 500 in labor to change. so good thing it was great timing that things needed to change.

I just drove it to work and its great to drive it again. i did not realize how much i missed driving my car. haha.

CL - thanks for the link. im planning on keeping it in D5 for the first fill and then next fill up im going to go SS for a little.

as for the jet kit does anyone else have theres on the new trans?? they took mines off so im not sure if it suppose to be on there or should i take it back to the dealer to have it reinstalled?? but im assuming the new updated trans dont need it. but im going to be running a cooler soon to keep the temps down. it still runs upward of 200 degrees from my gauge. so figure the cooler can help out on keeping the fluid from breaking down so fast.

as for the fluid change i change 3 qt every 3k miles. i do it just to keep the fluid fresh. even though it did not prevent the trans from failing it did shift smooth every time i did the 3qts. liek 01tl4tl said its cheap insurance.

but i love it. car is running like it was off the showroom floor.

the funny thing is since they changed the motor mounts i feel the vibs of the motor a little more now. but feels good to have a little more power than the chevy cobalt that i was renting haha.

I got my replacement transmission back yesterday. The oil jet is in the new trandi and also oil refill nut is much bigger than the old one. I also found the motor mounts are new as well, no charge.

Warranty on the motor mounts depends on time and miles

A few people have gotten them free, but I suspect thats likely the same people who have contributed to the dealers income for some time

Even at a few/several hundred $ in expense for other needed repairs- we all got a new trans worth $4000 included in the deal

I'm smilin about that!
