Jaguar X-TYPE
Many of u already know that there is a baby jag called the x-type coming out soon.Would any of u trade in your tl's for the X-type.Also let me know if u guys think that the X-TYPE is a good competitor to the BMW 3 series, mercedes c class and lexus IS 300.And will it take sales away from acura.
Jags are totally in a different class than our TL's. Even if they start from mid $30K, it's still considerably more expensive than TL's. Besides, it's a Jag... it breaks down easy.

Well, won't say anything without actually test drive one. It share parts with Ford, but think the interior is still nicer. Similar amount of power, a bit faster with the manual tranny... AWD...
I still like the bimmer more becuase it's a driver's car. The Jag makes a better sedan...

I was thinking about looking into the possibility of getting the X type, but it's AWD and doesn't have AC vents in back....

There's no point bashing the X-type if you don't know what you're talking about. It's based on the new Ford Mondeo in the UK which is a well respected technical achievement amongst automotive experts and enthusiasts. Although I probably would never buy this car, I've read that it's pretty fast 6.3 sec 0-60 and handles pretty well with stock 17" rims - just the long-term reliability might be an issue.

As the above post stated, the Jag X-type is based on a slightly shortened form of the Ford Mondeo (the platform on which the currently discontinued Ford Contour was based on). I was in the UK last week, and had a chance to study the cars there..... the Mondeo looks lovely and competes there with the Volkswagen Passat.
They introduced AWD to the X-type to differentiate between it and the FWD Mondeo....
Also, the Honda Accords available in the UK are shaped totally differently from the US version and look very good (Has got an Audi A4 like look to it from the back). I briefy drove an Accord Type-R while in the UK.....tough to know that it is a FWD car....out of this world handling..

Hmm, I see 1980 Jags selling for 8k or so, thats more then I would pay for an old Bimmer or something. There's something about Jags that make you want to tint it up and put some bling rims on it and roll around big pimpin'. They weren't very reliable in the past I know but I believe Ford has much improved on that. I own a Ford Taurus so I'm a little biased but I can say this, I've hit another car and f-cked it up pretty bad without a dent on my car, and I've spun my car off a highway ramp into a ditch without a dent on my car, and I've had no major repair problems with my car... 1998 Ford Taurus with 100,000 miles(used as a daily driver). Oh and I push my car to it's limit, flooring it at every stop light and taking every turn as fast as possible, I used to hate ford(Fix Or Repair Daily) mostly for the horror stories you hear about Rustangs, but I think mine has held up pretty well...

Note in the JD Power list that a Jaguar is only one step below the TL in initial problems, and a second Jag places 11th out of all cars. I was really surprised.
While Ford owning Jaguar takes some of the mystique and panache out of the brand for some, the new ownership has done well for quality. Jaguars are still not quite Lexus or Acura, but they're gaining ground quickly.

I called the dealer for an X-type, and my i'm going to be called in later in July to take one for us to look at it. I want my father to get this car since he has always liked the XJ6. (He's not a big fan of cars that are fast, one thing I don't like about him). (If you ask give me a XKR, and i'd be happy.
) The car seems to be a great deal for the price, and what i love about it is the luxury/sporty/5speed aspect of it. If i wanted to buy a car, i would consider it if i couldn't afford the awsome S 4.0. (Or 540 6 speed.) Well, if you want to consider this car, just wait for it and try it out. There is no reason to judge ford as being a bad company. (I know Jaguar isn't #1 for reliability either, but I have heard Jaguar's quality has increased greatly since ford got involved.) If you ask me, its a gorgeous car, i just fear its gonna turn out like IS300. (I tought it was a gorgeous car, then I went for a test drive, but i couldn't drive it since i'm too tall/big.)

Checked one out tonight. Sat in it, moved seats around etc.
It seemed like an upscale Ford to me. I wasn't very impressed. I think the styling is bla too. What is it with the latest trends of producing something that looked like it melted in the sun? What happened to clean lines and edges?
I think some of this is a case of Ford trying to make sure the X type won't possibly look as good or better than their other Jag cars. I respect BMW, because they didn't make the 3 series look like shit in an effort to make the 5 series look better (they do dumb down the smaller engine models within a series though). Maybe that is why they are the class leader. Anyway, even Honda does this. The front end of the Accord looks WORSE than older models... presumably so they can make the TL look more distinguished. Had they built the TL from the ground up, they would have had a better TL, and a better Accord, and they'd probably both have improved sales (although they aren't really hurting in that respect... maybe its why they don't bother). I thought the Legend was, and still is, a better looking, more unique car for its time than the TL. To Honda's credit, they aren't charging $15,000 more than a loaded Accord, so I guess it is fair. Look at that Infiniti sport ute (QX4). That is nothing more than a glorified pathfinder.
Anyway, I won't be buying a $40,000 Ford Mondeo this fall. I hope they fail miserably. That's what you deserve when you don't try to build the best car in the class. At least Mercedes gave it an honest effort. They'll sell like hotcakes for the first 6 months, then it will suffer the fate of the Lexus IS300 (probably worse actually).
