Question Jacking / Jackstand Points, Service Manual?

Two questions:

1- Is the service/shop manual available for the '00-01 TLs yet? I'm sure it costs like almost a hundred bucks but I want it. Anyone get it yet?

2- From #1, it should be obvious that I wish to do maintenence on the car myself. I just looked under the car, and I couldn't find good places to support the car on jackstands. Where do you guys jack and support the car, and tell me for both front and back if possible. Pics would be really nice. And yes, I have normal jackstands and a hydraulic jack.

YOu didn't look hard enough. The jacking points for the front is right behind the front wheels and for the rear is just before the rear wheels. You will have to look underneath the car to see it. Also, if your car isn't lowered and don't have a kit, you do not have to jack up the car to change oil/tranny fluid.

Yeah, smarty-pants, I know those jacking points. Where do you put the jackstand? And I am not into working under the car when not raised, and will also need to raise it to rotate tires and do stuff like checking brake pads.

Anyone else???

Does anyone have the Helm manual, and if so, is it good or should I get the manual from Acura?

I use the same locations AcuraTL was refering to. I also use a piece of 2x4 on my stands with the indentation in wood, works well! I also like too see and work on the car without being so cramped. Sorry i can't help you on question #1.

I don't know about you guys but I block my cars up with wood before crawling under them. Don't use those concrete cinder blocks, please!

Can't help Gomez, haven't had that problem yet, only have 2600 miles on her. Let me know what happens. You can put the blocks anywhere along the frame I would say, jack the biznatch up and have a look.

you might want to jack the car up from a different location than the suggested jacking points. In other words, jack the car up from the flat and solid place medial to the jacking points on the front. Then you can put the jackstands on the suggested jacking points.

Thanks, UW - that's more what I was looking for: somewhere to jack and also to stand. I guess I wasn't obvious enough in pointing out that the jacking points are useless for jackstands if the jack happens to be on them at the time. "OK, Bubba - pull the jack out real quick and slip this stand under her before the car falls..."

UW - by medial to the jacking point, do you mean the frame rail towards the center of the car from the jacking point? It felt like it was covered in a flimsy plastic piece that I didn't want to ruin, but I didn't look to close.

Maybe I should just jack an end up and look for another suitable point.

sorry i wasn't being very clear. Yes, medial to the jacking points is the frame rail. For the front, you will see 2 bolts right next to each other on the frame rail. That's the place to jack the car from - directly on the bolts. Then u can put the jack stands on the suggested jacking points. For the rear, DO NOT jack it from the simliar place (on the frame rail) cuz it's hollow on the rear!! There are places around the suggested jacking points that you might want to try (be sure to knock on them first and compare the sound - dull vs. resonant. The duller the better.. I need to double check on my car to give u a definite answer cuz I don't want to screw your car up

The frame rails in the front and rear are both hollow. I inspect cars for a living and it might look like it is solid up front, but it is hollow.

You should see a lower cross-member underneath the front of the vehicle, you can use that as a jacking point. Or, you can jack where the front tow hooks are, same for the rear.
