IS300.net Silliness, Your Mix 'n' match Choice
Wow! I had to take a look over there to see what was up, and it was scary... have a look at http://www.is300.net/forum_new/Forum1/HTML/003252.html to see the 60-odd post flame war! Just for giggles, I registered on the site and posted my .02 as to why the IS drew such a sordid crowd. Read my post (Gomez) if ya like...
Either way, a question came to mind: I almost bought the IS, and wondered what could have been. Furthermore, I wonder what MIGHT HAVE BEEN if my near-dream car existed.
For about thirty grand, what car would I get if I could piece stuff together? Meaning, pick items from existing cars in the range and come up with a 'perfect' car costing about that much.
Here's my ideal:
Engine - TL (CL-S a little loud for me)
tranny - TL (just right, not too firm, smooth)
brakes - BMW 3-series
suspension - IS300 (quick enough but not punishing, quiet)
body - BMW 3-series (but with larger size of TL)
dash - BMW 3-series
seats, trim - TL
gadgets - TL
stereo - I30 speakers/amp w/ CL-S head unit
wheels - TL (but 17")
exhaust - TL
Judging by my responses, TL is 1st, BMW 3 is 2nd, IS300 is 3rd and I30 is 4th. Funny, that's how my choices rounded out in the buying process!!! What about the rest of y'all?

I did about the same thing as you did, but no RWD cars since we have snow (a lot), and TL came out as the first choice as well, so... it's a kewl car.

nice picks... especialy on the breaks.... i drove my friends m3... and i must say, i really really like his breaks (specialy compaired to the TLs) but as for stock stereo, i must say volvo is very nice, so is the exhaust tone of volvo, too bad it picks up too slow, and too damn boxy, or else i really like the s70

The sad thing about that thread over at IS30.net is that it's just one of many. Say one tiny little thing about their precious IS300 and those people have a freakin' cow!!! It's funny... there have been people who own neither a CL nor IS300 coming into the CL forum and calling us immature while backing up the childishness that runs rampant over there??
