Question Interior Care

I have had my TL about a month now, and this is my first really nice car. I really want to keep it that way. I have a few questions about the interior.

1. Does anyone have a good one-step leather care product they would recommend? I have never owned a car with leather, so I have no prior experience here.

2. How often should I clean/condition the leather?

3. I had a friend tell me to clean the door seals with Armor-All. He claims that it will keep the seals soft, and help eliminate some road noise. This is the first time I had heard this, and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts along these lines.

4. What do you guys use to clean the dash? I am not a big fan of high gloss finishes on the dash, but I want a good protectant too.

Thanks in advance for all the opinions.

Okay not sure about the one step leather products.
LEXOL is great but its a 2 step leather product cleaner & conditioner you need a bottle of each. Alot of people on here use this product & I have used it since late 1993. I had leather seats in my 94 ACCORD EX. The leather was not put in at the factory & was of a higher quality than factory. I found a LEXOL add in one of my car mags & have been a user of the product ever since. What you have to do is wash & dry the seats like your body then apply the conditioner. They say to do it every 8 weeks but I have not done that. Meguiars should make a good one step product as well as some others. I prefer the LEXOL leather product over the others. The dash I clean with Meguiars Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant. This product has cleaning agents added to it as well to remove dirt & grime.IT also has UV protection to protect from sun damage. One application will maintain the like new look. If you apply a second coat it will darken & increase the shine beyound factory finish it does not have the greasy or plasitic
look. Treatment of the weather stripping will not harm it it will only help. I don't know about eliminating road noise but it will keep the stuff from cracking over time. It will also keep the doors closing like new. I did this on my 1980 PRELUDE for 15 yrs before I got rid of my 1st new car it won't hurt.

What color is the leather?
I also suggest Lexol, rub with your HANDS, if you use a cloth, all the good stuff goes in the cloth, not the leather.

For the dash, Eagle one (not glossy)is good, I like Armor ALL detailers advantage (glossy though).

For rubber, use WD-40 or silicone. WD-40 to clean the engine bay.

For wheels, look for stuff that has NO ACID in it.

Use car wash specific soap, not palmolive etc to wash your car. Houshold cleaners strip the wax off your car.

Any more questions, hope this helps.

I use a two step myself. One to clean the other is a lotion. Makes my leather look great.

I use Meguiar's Medallion for leather on the seats. Meguiar's rubber and vinyl conditioner for everything else.

On the outside, Meguiar's Show Car Glaze, topped with Meguiar's Medallion for Paint, and oh yeah Menguiar's Endurance on the tires.

Jeeeez! I sound like a commercial.

WOW I thought I was the only one wit all meguiars product. On my exterior I first used the Quick clay, then the 3 step paint process. The Paint cleaner, Polish and then Carnuba wax.
And for everything else all other differ meguiar products.

Thumbs up Soft and clean leather (Murphys Oil)

I've never owned anything but leather interior. I've also never kept any of my cars more than 5 years. I use Murphys Oil. Biggest problem most peoplel encounter with leather over time is cracking. The oil will keep it soft and flexable. I use it once a month, and can do the entire interior in about 20 minutes. It doesn't have a scent(which I prefer) and the leather is glove soft and clean.

I thought Murphy's oil is the stuff to clean the floor.

properautocare.com

I think some stores carry it like boat/marina stores and Ace Hardware.

This is their homepage: http://www.303products.com/protectant.htm

They have a link to search for retailers on there.

I use Meguiar's Gold Class Leather Cleaner/Conditioner and it seems to do the trick.

I don't put anything on the rubber door seals. I just wipe them down every car wash and keep 'em clean. I've tried silicone sprays (on previous cars) and find they attract and retain more dirt. I had a 91 Prelude for 10 years and none of its rubber seals cracked.

I don't put anything on the dashboard either; I just keep it clean. As for 'UV protection' ... most automotive plastics are engineered to survive harsh environments. When I sold my ol' Prelude a year ago, its interior plastics were as black as the day I bought it in '91. The carpet had faded ... but what can you do?
