Intake installed,one question

I just finished installing my cai w/by-pass valve. I have heard of a smoke test to test for leaks, Can someone explain this process to me? Also it is not as loud as i thought it would be. Does the filter need to be oiled before the first use? My kit came with no oil.

Most filters already come oiled. Never heard of smoke test, maybe someone else would know. The short ram is by far the loudest.

It's more for safety when you go through bad weather or any sort of water that will cause hydrolock.
